Club Details

AFC Hamsey (founded in 2007) are currently playing in their third season together, in the Redhill and District Sunday League Division 2.

History:

Back in the heady days of early summer 2007, when house prices were high, Beadle was still about, Rebecca Adlington was just a normal big nosed large shouldered teenager and Matty Gallafant was too young to drink; a group of lads got together for a special occasion. The event was a fundraiser for Hamsey Rangers Guru and all-round good egg Phil Edmonds’, and for this great occasion some of his former protégés reformed their youth team to take on his current group of upstarts. In the drunken haze which followed, an idea was born and that idea became Hamsey Rangers Reserves FC.

Our first ever season, 2007/08 was a great success, finishing runners-up in the 4th Division, with the best goal scoring record in the league. A number of players came and went over the course of the season but one thing remained ever consistent – Millsy didn’t shower. Some notable moments from the season include the quite ridiculous 7-7 draw, the excellent wins against Orient, Teeks’ transformation from Paulo Wanchope to Fernando Torres and of course the epic Kingswood game that resulted in some fuss over match reports, thankfully all forgotten now.

Moving into Divison 3, we had to change our name as we had reached the same level as the other Hamsey team (those upstarts mentioned earlier) and due to this, AFC Hamsey rose from the ashes. Discarded names include Hamsey Eagles, Hamsey Tigers and Lower Kingswood*.

*Too soon? Let’s not drag that one up again.

Again being promoted from Division 3 into Division 2 in the 2008/2009 season (again coming 2nd to Lower Kingswood), saw a more competitive season for AFC Hamsey, finishing 3rd in Division 2.

After being asked to fill a spot in the League Set-up's top division, AFC Hamsey declined to try and get their hands on the clubs fist piece of silverware in Division 2.
