BLACKWOOD completed their Midland Combination Division Two title winning season in fine style on Saturday with a 4-1 home success against Greenhill.
Jim Brogan’s side will play in Division One for the first time in the club’s history next season after securing a fifth straight promotion.
Formed in 1964, Blackwood was originally a Sunday side but switched to the Midland Combination League two years ago.
They were crowned Division Three champions last year, winning the league by over ten points, and also won the Divisional Cup. That success has now been followed by a further title winning campaign, a feat made all the more impressive given they have had to complete 50 per cent of their fixtures since March 26 due to the impact the winter weather had on their schedule.
Brogan added that he was full of praise for his squad and the way have conducted themselves throughout the season.
“They are a young group and there are a lot of distractions at that age but they have worked incredibly hard, not fallen out with each other and kept up a winning momentum that has seen us achieve our goal.
“Looking ahead to next season and the challenges that Division One will bring, Brogan said he will maintain his approach of aiming for the top.
“I always want to finish first, and next season will be no different. Whether that is a realistic aim or not only time will tell, but I have no interest in setting a target of ensuring we avoid relegation or anything like that.
“We have targets as a club and want to raise our profile as much as possible. We have had meetings about next season already and put into place things we want to do in pre-season.
“The lads can have a few weeks off to recharge now before we come back on June 25 when the hard work starts again.”
