Constable Crusaders were formed in 2003 by students based in the halls of residence at the University of East Anglia. After several years in the unaffiliated Norwich Sunday Football League (NSFL) with vastly mixed results (including a proud runners-up position in their final NSFL season), Crusaders stepped up to the FA-run Norwich and District Sunday League in division 4A. A season of both highs (a cup replay victory at 4B champions Briston Wanderers a particular highlight) and lows followed, but Crusaders’ inaugural league season was a success overall with an impressive 3rd place finish. As a result, Crusaders find themselves a tier higher for the forthcoming 2011-12 season, in division 3A.
Only one of the original Crusaders is still around (Adam Burroughs) but many of the current team have been playing together for years in various guises. The bulk of the current line-up have been together for the past three or four seasons, enabling close bonds to be formed. A couple of players from last season’s squad have departed for pastures new, but Crusaders still retain a sense of togetherness.
After self-financing their maiden league season, Crusaders welcome The Gambling Times as sponsor for the coming campaign. |
