Dalton Girls and Ladies FC……Who we are....Our History
It all began way back in 2003 when local school teacher Gavin Rigg realized that he had a pretty good girls football team at the junior school where he taught.
Knowing that these girls would soon be moving up to secondary school and taking with them his chance of managerial success and glory, Gavin decided to act quick and turn the school team into a team for the town.
He needed help in his venture and so with promises of fame and fortune he found the assistant he sought in one of the players' parents, Dave Turner.
It was at this time that the rapidly growing local boys club "Dalton Juniors FC" decided to expand into the area of girls football. They contacted Gavin and Dave about bringing their team into the club and the rest as they say is history.
As time went by the girls section grew and grew, bringing in more players and ensnaring new coaches until it was agreed that the only way that both the boys and girls sections could progress further would be to go their separate ways.
And so in July 2006 the club "Dalton Girls and Ladies FC" was formed.
Who we are....Our Present and Future….
So here we are. We now boast seven teams at the club, from Under 9's all the way up to our open age team "Dalton Utd Ladies" (with many members of the original team still with us). Our girls play in various leagues, from our local Barrow + District League, the South Lakes Girls League in the South East of the county and the Ladies play in “The Cumbria Women’s League”.
The club is run entirely on a voluntary basis, our coaches have attended FA courses and all funds raised are used to develop opportunities for young players in the area. |
