The club was formed in 1957 by three local men, Jimmy Cruise, Jimmy Cooke and Peter Casey. They had a very successful few seasons in the Leinster Junior League, winning the coveted Sheeran Cup, Conway Cup and the League. At one time the club had three teams in the Leinster Junior Leagues, and then they joined the AUL and won Division 2 and Division 3.
They then hit a barren spell and with the youths of the area unwilling to train and play the club ceased to function. It must be said that this was no fault of the people behind the scenes who did trojan work to keep the club going. To mention a few who were there from the beginning - Larry Gray, Andy Monevin, Shay Gannon and former players Denis O' Brien, Paul Keogh, Ned White,Tom McNevin, George Gaskin and Stephen Boylan.
In the seventies great players like Christy Kane, Davey Woodlock, Tony Dempsey, Ritchie O' Brien, Jimmy Whelan, Joe Ralph, Paul Hendericks, Brendan Dempsey, Des Lucas, Willie Mullen, Seany Byrne, Christy Core, Eddie Ruth and lots more who went on to play in the league of Ireland, some played for Ireland at Junior International Level and others went to play in England.
In 2009 Brendan Dempsey decided to organise a committee from previous players and go about ressurecting the club. He asked ex-players like Declan Smith, David O' Reilly, Mark Anderson, Andy Hearse, Noel Dempsey, John Delemere, Stephen Dempsey, Greg Burke, Mark Aughvanny and Paddy Burgess.
They all got together and got everything that is needed to run a successful club and secured sponsorship from the Marble Arch to help finance the cost of setting up the new club. It was a total success in the first season and that was down to the total commitment of every one involved in the running of the club.
The team capped a fantastic first season off by winning the Dalton Cup, the Sheeran Cup, the Mitten Cup and finishing runner-up in the Leinster Football League Division 1 Saturday. Treble Winners 2010! |
