Heaton Winstons Over 40s play in Division 4 of the Sunderland and District Over 40s League. We were formed, years ago, as Winstons, after a pub in Deptford in Sunderland. After a few years, the club then moved home to Herrington, to become The Board Inn, playing home games at the ski slope in Silksworth. During the 2006/2007 season, Silksworth was unavailable and demographics came in to play when it came to the business of finding a new home; with more and more players based north of the Tyne, The Board Inn Over 40s moved to Benfield School playing fields and started to operate from the Northumberland Hussar pub in Heaton. For the 2007/2008, the team bowed to progress as well as recognising the club's history and tradition, by changing its name to Heaton Winstons. The final pieces in the transformation jigsaw saw us move pitches to Castle Farm (aka Paddy Freeman's), opposite the Freeman Hospital in High Heaton, where home games kick off at 10.30 on Saturday mornings and switch pubs to The Newton Park Hotel on Benton Road in High Heaton in August 2007.
Following the refurbishment of The Newton Park in to a low-rent approximation of Osborne Road meets the Three Mile, the management of this establishment decided not to continue with this agreement and Winstons moved to the Corner House in August 2009 for post match hospitality. After a highly successful season off the pitch at least, this arrangement will continue for 2010/2011.
In December 2010, the club moved home pitches to Centurion Park, Rheydt Avenue, Wallsend, NE28 8SX |
