Heygarth FC play in the Houlihans Birkenhead Sunday League Premier Division. We were formed as an Open Age team in 1992 when a number of players finished playing youth fooball for Heygarth Utd decided to carry on. After a couple of seasons, we decided to drop the 'United' part of the name due to a fall out with the Heygarth United Committee. We started in the Wirral Sunday League 3rd Division and worked our way up to the 1st, winning the Second Division and runner up in the 1st along the way. We joined the Birkenhead Sunday League in 1999 and won the 2nd Division at the first attempt. We won the 1st Division in our second season. We spent a couple of seasons in the Premier Division and were then relegated for the first time in our history. With an ageing squad, we decided to try and bring in younger players. This stabilised the club and with Darren Kavanagh taking sole control of the team, we fought our way back to the Premier Division in 2007 - 08 season winning the 1st Division. |
