Manor Athletic were formed in 1968, and became a force in the South Wirral League for a number of years until gaining West Cheshire status in 1991.
The winning of the South Wirral Premier Division title, and the Bill Johnson Bowl in the same season 1990/91, enabled them to achieve the Senior status that they had striven for since their formation.
Manor have also had some success at veteran football, with the over 40 side reaching Wembley a few years ago.
Although the introduction to West Cheshire football has been a difficult one the team and committee continue to work hard and gained promotion to Division Two in season 2001/2002 however the team suffered relegation some years later and now play in Division Three.
Manor moved from the Leverhulme Sports Complex to the Octel Sports Centre in season 2004/05.
The club has a 35 year + association with SV Laar of the Netherlands which sees the two clubs take turns to travel to their opponents to play a friendly match every season.
The 2006/2007 season was the most successul in recent times with the team narrowly missing out on promotion and reaching a cup final.
The 2007/2008 season saw another concerted attempt at promotion. After an unbeaten start to the season and sitting clear at the top of the division a long enforced winter break due to weather/pitches meant that the club played twice in two months. Upon returning to action the club had lost top spot and never managed to return to the form of the first few months of the season, missing out again on promotion in a year when the divsion title was a realistic aim.
The 2010/11 season was Manor Athletics most succesful season in the 21st Century with Promotion to Division Two by finishing runners up in league plus very unlucky to finish runners up in league cup. The club is now looking stronger than ever on/off the pitch and hoping to continue moving forward.
The ambition of the club now is to have Manor Athletics two sides in West Cheshire 1+2. |
