Minster Football Club is a local football club based in Minster, Kent. The team, originally founded in 1911, plays their football in the Thanet District Football League with Minster's recreational ground as their home pitch and currently competing in Division Two as well as participating in the Kent Cup each year.
The Club is a well run organisation, backed by a fantastic sponsor in JJB. The club as a whole enjoys getting involved and promoting themselves at local events and gatherings and are also edging ever closer to their centenary year, a fantastic achievement by a great club.
Minster's traditional kit colours are orange shirts and black shorts with black socks. The club crest has been changed several times in attempts to modernise or re-brand; the current crest, featuring a ceremonial hind, is a modified version of the Minster's village emblem.
Early records indicate that Minster's predecessors also played in a blue / light blue four squared symmetrical shirt, blue shorts and blue socks with MFC stitched lettering as club badge.
At present the club holds three league titles ‘Division II Cup’ (2009-10), ‘Division Two player of the Year’, Oliver Mitchell (2009-10) and ‘Secretary of the Year’ Colin Holden (2009-10). The club also pride themselves on being the oldest club in the Thanet League.
Minster’s end of season honours for the 2009-10 season saw Craig Jewell taking the sought after ‘Player’s Player’ award with Oliver Mitchell picking up the ‘Managers Player’ for the second time in three seasons. Other awards included ‘Fan’s Player’ Rhys Morgan, ‘Young Player’ Ross Chapman and ‘Clubman’ James Oldbury.
After a dramatic turnaround from a dreadful previous season Minster Youth were repaid for sticking together as a team with their first piece of silverware last season, a very memorable moment for the squad and hopefully sign of more to come. The club are targeting a return to the top division this season with another strong Kent Cup run. |
