Minster Football Club is a local football club based in Minster, Kent. The team, originally founded in 1911, plays their football in the Thanet District Football League with Minster's recreational ground as their home pitch and currently competing in Division Two as well as participating in the Kent Cup each year.
The Club is a well run organisation that enjoys getting involved and promoting themselves at local events and gatherings. Being a village team the club surprisingly lacks support and would like to see some more local faces down at our home games each week to cheer on their local club. The club is edging ever closer to their centenary year, a fantastic achievement by a great club.
Minster's traditional kit colours are orange shirts and black shorts with black socks. The club crest has been changed several times in attempts to modernise or re-brand; the current crest, featuring a ceremonial hind, is a modified version of the Minster's village emblem.
Early records indicate that Minster's predecessors also played in a blue / light blue four squared symmetrical shirt, blue shorts and blue socks with MFC stitched lettering as club badge.
At present the club holds two titles ‘Sportsmen of the Year’ (2008-09) and ‘Division One player’s player of the Year, Oliver Mitchell’ (2008-09) and also pride themselves on being the oldest club in the Thanet League. The clubs last great success was reaching the Kent Cup Final in the early 90’s.
Minster’s end of season honours this year saw Nick Holbrook complete the double taking ‘Player’s Player’ and ‘Fan’s Player’ awards with Ali Mannings collecting ‘Manager’s Player’.
Our current squad (nick named Minster Youth) have seen a dramatic change in the last three years with a mass of young players coming through the ranks, providing the club with a solid, reliable and talented team with strength in depth. The club are targeting a return to the top division this season with another strong Kent Cup run. |
