Norton and Stockton Ancients play in the Arngrove Northern League Second Division. They were formed in 1959 and played as Norton Cricket Club Trust in the Teesside League. The present Norton and Stockton Ancients club name was adopted in 1978 when the famous Stockton FC 3 times FA Amateur cup winners amalgamated Stockton FC having disbanded in 1975. The new club took the name Ancients the nickname of Stockton FC to forever honour their proud history.
The new club were admitted to the Northern League in 1982 and in the same year won the Northern League League Cup beating Whitby Town 2-1. The club have never been in the First Division of the Northern League but in the season 2004/5 the club reached the highest league position for 20 years and were beaten finalists in the Second Division Craven Cup 2-1 by West Allotment Celtic. Last season the club reached the second round of the FA Vase which is the furthest the club have been for 20 years. The club also has 19 junior teams ranging from Under 7-17, a newly formed Ladies team and also a successful Over 40's team who last season won the Over 40's North East Cup.
At Station Road Norton Teesside sports complex is a multi sport site with floodlit astroturf and good quality football pitches, The Club house Norton sports and social club is situated on the grounds a short walk from the pitch and serves alcohol and food prior and after games . |
