Home ground: Davie Park RATTRAY AFC
Brief History of Smedley/Rattray AFC
Founded by a group of Smedley HP Foods Ltd employees in 1962, the Club has now been in existence for over 40 years, and has always played in the Perthshire Amateur Leagues.
The first Team Manager appointed was Fred Pillinger, and in 1964, their first competitive season, Smedley AFC won promotion to Division 2. They were congratulated by F.J. Beeton, the then General Manager of Smedley Foods Ltd, for their achievement, and for raising enough funds to buy their own transport.
Over the next 20 years there were many highs and lows, the most notable of these being the Ashleigh Cup win in 1968, and the Smith League Cup win in 1979.
Following the closure of Smedley Ltd in 1979, it was agreed to change the name of the club. This was put in place during 1980, with the club playing under the name that remains now, Rattray AFC.
From 1981 to 1992 under the management of Jim Heeney, the Club achieved a number of notable League and Cup successes. Since 1992, three further Cups have been won (See Honours).
The Club has always taken a great pride in supplying local youngsters (and not so young stars!) with a keen and healthy interest in sport, and the Committee and players have also contributed to many charitable causes through fundraising events over the years.
It is recognised that in the modern day, the need for sponsorship is paramount. Rattray has been fortunate enough over the years to have received this from many local businesses and individuals, for which they are ever grateful.
Rattray won promotion back into division 2 in 2010 after 2 seasons in division 3, and with the group of players currently at the club all are hopeful that further success awaits.
