Trowbridge Town AFC was formed in the summer of 1998 following the demise of Trowbridge Town (1983) Ltd. Football supporters in the town were obviously saddened by the end of the Club and following a meeting of interested followers the new club was formed.
The first year of its’ existence saw the Club with no team and no ground. A lot of time and effort put in by supporters of the Club resulted in finances being raised and eventually the Club joined the Wiltshire County League for the 1999-2000 Season.
Success was achieved when the Club won the County Intermediate League in its first Season and following improvements to its Woodmarsh Ground joined the County Senior League the following Season. Consistent performances were achieved in this League with the Club reaching the final of both the County Senior Cup and League Knockout Cup in two successive seasons. The club completed the Wiltshire League Championship and Wilts Senior Cup double in 2003-2004 and this together with major ground improvements during the summer brought the reward of a place in the Hellenic League. The runners-up spot was achieved at the first attempt but promotion could not be taken due to ground requirements, something which was unfortunately repeated last season.
From the first match played by the new Club the emphasis on the playing side has been based on Young players from the local areas (with a few exceptions). The club has always has a strong link with AFC Trowbridge Town Youth and a recent agreement to officially merge the two clubs will be completed during season 2008-2009. For a number of years, Trowbridge Town Youth FC has been one of the most successful youth football Clubs in the County and many of their players have progressed to the senior side. Woodmarsh, the ground for Trowbridge Town will soon be redeveloped ready to make the next step up in the football pyramid. |
