After rising thgrough the ranks of the Shields sunday league, the vets reached second spot cack in 2010 but after a largely dissappointing season last year the vets could only manage a mid table finish. The vets will be looking to kick on from a decent end to the season and with a few new additions and if a few of last seasons under performers can find a bit form then hopefully the club can once again challenge for honours. After the untimely death of player and fans favorite Jamal Bouzid in April, the squad were honoured to lift the first Jamal Bouzid Trophy at Filtrona park in may.
In addition to playing every sunday the club also has strong community links, inparticular to local pub and clubs. The first team meet every sunday in the Lord Ashley pub on stanhope road for an after match diagnostic and a few beverages to replace lost fluids. Apart from meeting fans and committee members, the weekly meeting gives former players the chance to tell the current squad that they arent good enough and that they wouldnt of gotton a game back in their day.
During the season the club have training every thursday night at Mortimer Comp Astroturf at 7-8pm. If you fancy your chances of one day wearing the famous Vets Shirt then come along for a trial. |
