Washingon Colliery F.C currently play in the Swinburne Maddison Durham + district league, Division 4.
The club was formed by Mark Wallis and Michael Walker and were first affilated with Durham F.A in 2004. Originally playing in the now defunct Stanley and district league in 2005/06 season under the name Washington Wetherspoons. We had a poor first season but have now become a decent team and moved to the Durham league in 2006 when the Stanley league folded. The club has since progressed even further and now have a stable financial footing, our own commitee and players charter.
The club are proud to have achieved F.A charter status in 2006 and have 2 level 1 adult coaches The club achieved promotion in 2006/07 although were relegated in 2009 buy looking to bounce straight back up
The club have had somewhat of a reshuffle in preparation for the 2010 season with Chairman Michael Walker taking on the managers role with Dale Reid assisting. Craig Neal and John Kelly continued with captaincy roles while Michael Graham and Mark Wallis continued in thier respective Secretery and Treasurer roles.
The club operate from Washington Gardners club and are grateful for thier continued support

2004: F.A Affiliated
2005: Accepted into Stanley League playing as Washington Wetherspoons.
2005/06 season: Finish bottom of Stanley league Division 1 although reach semi final of league cup. Goalkeeper voted league goalkeeper of the year.
2006/07 season: Accepted into Durham "Stepys Coaches league" Division 4
Sept 06: Pull off shock result beating Premier League Burnmoor CC, which features heavily in local sports paper.
November 06: Officially accepted as F.A Charter Standard.
May 07: Changed name to Washington Colliery F.C following player vote.
May 07: Promoted to division 3
May 08: Win inaugural Washington Cup
May 09: Relegated, missing out on safety by 1 point. |
