Founded 1998
During the early 1990's a group of friends who frequented the Woburn Arms over weekends and in particular Sunday evenings had an idea of forming their own football club. With several players playing for different clubs namely the Coach + Horses, The George (in Addlestone and Chertsey) it was decided on one boosy Sunday afternoon that we would form a football club with the backing and help from the then landlord Kevin Elliot.
We applied to the Surrey Hants border league who at first opposed our plans though they were not scuppered completely. After a well written and detailed letter from Laurie, we attended a meeting and explained that we were not poaching players from any clubs but leaving them to set up our own team and since most of us frequented the Woburn Arms it only seemed the right thing to do.
Our first competitive match was on 6th September 1998. Our first secretary was Peter Chiverton aided by various people such as Phil Hurn, Laurie Bird, and Chris Whitcombe who formed the rather relaxed but efficient club committee. The club continues to play and in 2008 will be celebrating its tenth anniversary.
We have been strongly linked to the local community and various events have seen the club raise a great deal of money for charities.
At the end of the 2007/08 Season it was decided by the committee to cease playing as Woburn Arms and Woburn Arms Reserves and to reform into 1 team as West Addlestone FC and move home to the Abbeymoor Golf Club
The Owner and landlord Kev supports the club and offers a fine spread for players to enjoy with a post match bevy as well as the hosting of club funtions and end of season Awards.
