Wootton St. George Football Club was formed over 110 years ago in 1896, when the Club joined the Central Village League. They later played in the Central Combination where they enjoyed many successful seasons, rising from the fourth to the Premier division. During this time they also enjoyed considerable cup success with 17 awards in a 9 year period, with an incredible 7 of those coming in a single season.
The Club joined the Northampton Town League in 1976 and enjoyed success in the Lower Junior Cup. They have since maintained a position in the top two divisions of this competition, as well as running successful Sunday sides for many years. The Club has enjoyed limited success in recent seasons, having reached several Cup Finals in the late 1990s, but only picking up one trophy, the NTFA Dearden Trophy in 1999. The Club were runners up in the 2003 Gorrell Barnes competition, which saw them grace the Sixfields turf for the final.
Their most successful season for some time in 2004/2005 saw them reach the Quarter Finals of both the Gorrell Barnes and League Cups, as well as finishing a superb 4th in the Premier Division of the Northampton Town League.
The club recently rejoined the Northants Combination, in 2005 and finished a credible 5th place in their first season in Division 2.
2005 also saw the return of the Sunday Side. In their first season back, they came 2nd (by a point) in the Northants Sunday Combination Division 6, as well as reaching 3 Cup Semi Finals.
After finishing 4th in Div 2 last season, Wootton were promoted to Combination Division 1.
