Wessex Rangers play in the Sportsman Senior Sunday Football League Division 1. Formed in 2001 the first gathering of the team on record was on Clapham Common on a cold December Sunday afternoon. The first official match was played on 17th February 2002 against Darkside (a game that Wessex drew 2-2 with the first ever goal scored by Andrew Sachrajda).
The first full season was the 2002-2003 campaign upon admission to the SSFL and Wessex were promoted to division 1 at the end of the 06-07 season after finishing 3rd, 2 just points from clinching the title. Since formation the club have been under the tenure of Peter Evans (02-04) and Simon Breach (04-present). The clun finished 3rd (06-07), 5th twice (02-03 and 03-04) and 4th once (04-05) reaching the Ron Le Beau Challenge Trophy semi final in the 04-05 campaign only to lose to eventual winners Bald Eagles.
The 2006-07 season was the debut season for the 2XI.
