Galaxy FC 2-5 Dorchester Town Panthers
November 13, 2011 - Dorset County Cup, Round 2
BATTLING GALAXY DOWNED BY DIVISION ONE DORCHESTER
Galaxy competed from the first minute against 1st division Dorchester and were very unfortunate to come away with a 5.2 defeat. Galaxy were more than a match for Dorchester for large parts of the game and showed there's not a lot of difference between the 2 divisions.
Galaxy found themselves 1 down in the 10th minute. Dorchester broke down the right hand side and their forward cooly slotted the ball past the despairing Dubber. Galaxy came close 3 minutes later with Simmonds getting the shot in after good play by Clifford. Galaxy kept up their record of scoring in every match this season, deservedly scoring the equaliser. Sturmey played a superb through ball for Gilbert who made no mistake from just inside the box. 2 minutes later and Galaxy came close again. Simmonds floated in a free kick which was headed on by Musson for Barber who managed to get a header on target. The ever reliable Dubber mmade a great save in the 25th minute. Dorchester regained the lead in the 37th minute when Sherred headed a cross into his own net, giving Dubber no chance. Galaxy should have been back on level terms within a minute, Gilbert finding himself clean through and forcing the keeper into a fine save.
Galaxy came of at half time knowing they were definately still in the game but found themselves 3.1 down in the 1st minute of the second half. Dorchester were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box and their forward rattled the ball into the net. Galaxy produced one the best moves of the match in the 45th minute. Gilbert got a shot in after fine play involving Sturmey, Simmonds and Davis. A couple of minutes later Dorchester took a quick throw in resulting in their forward getting a shot in from the edge of the box to extend Dorchester's lead to 4.1. Galaxy didn't give up and were awarded a penalty in the 55th minute. Clifford went on a fantastic run leaving a couple of Dorchester defenders for dead before he was brought down in the box. Up stepped Thompson from the spot who made no mistake, blasting the ball into the back of the net. Dubber was again called into action in the 60th minute producing another fantastic save. Galaxy came very close in the 70th minute after Davis slotted a free kick to Simmonds who smashed it across goal with Eggleton just unable to divert it into the net. Dorchester ended the game with 2 minutes remaining when their midfielder scored a wonder goal from 35 yards.
Galaxy can walk away with their heads held high after another good performance. The scoreline was rather harsh on Galaxy who were more than a match for a no doubt very relieved Dorchester. Now we can look forward to returning to league action. Hopefully we can take our recent league form with us next week when we go to bottom of the table Shaftesbury. Well done lads, great effort.
20 min - Jake Gilbert (8/10)
