RECORD BREAKING GALAXY HAMMER SHAFTESBURY
Galaxy under 16's set a new Galaxy record today by hammering Shaftesbury 12.0. Galaxy were in control from start to finish and their superior quality showed throughout the match.
Galaxy took the lead in the 4th minute when Musson capitalized on a mistake from the keeper to smash the ball home after Clifford had originally shot. 2 minutes later Simmonds doubled the lead following up a shot from Gilbert. It was almost 3 a minute later when McNulty came close with a header from a Sturmey cross. After a fine run and shot from Barber in the 9th minute, Musson scored his 2nd of the match. Galaxy were running riot and Thompson scored from the penalty spot after Clifford was clearly fouled in the box in the 11th minute. Clifford scored the 5th scoring from a Musson pass in the 17th minute. 2 minutes later it was 6.0 with Gilbert scoring from a Simmonds pass. Galaxy made it 7.0 in the 26th minute with Sturmey scoring from a fine Musson cross.2 minutes later Simmonds again set up Gilbert for an easy tap in for the 8th. 3 minutes before half time Simmonds was unlucky to hit the post with a stylish effort. Galaxy goalkeeper Dubber showed he was still concentrating when he made a great stop from a very rare Shaftesbury attack.
5 minutes into the 2nd half Gilbert completed his hat-trick, smashing the ball home after a fine run and cross from Eggleton. It should have been double figures a minute later but Sturmey fired wide after a fine through ball from Clifford. It took until the 63rd minute for the 10th goal. Eggleton calmly fired home after some great play from Moggeridge. 4 minutes later Simmonds nearly scored the goal of the season, but his audacious shot from fully 40 yards came back of the crossbar.
McNulty scored the goal of the match with 4 minutes left, firing home from 25 yards after a pass from Rees. Galaxy completed the scoring in the last minute with Sturmey scoring his 2nd of the match following a pass from Clifford. There was still time for Clifford to have a goal ruled out for off side before the final whistle. Thompson, Barber, Turner and Dubber were solid at the back throughout the 2nd half and quite often set up attacks by playing the ball out from the back. Rees, McNulty and Eggleton were fantastic down the flanks in the 2nd half and overall it was a fantastic team performance. What a great start to the season. Well done lads.
