Branksome Celtic 1-4 Angel of Poole

Semi Final Draw
BELVEDERE INN FC vs Angel of Poole
Duke of Albany vs TX United
Angel of Poole sit in 10th place in division 3 of the Bournemouth Sunday League, however they have only played 4 league games this campaign winning 2 and losing 2, whilst scoring 8 and conceding 6. So at this moment in time this gives their positioning in the league a false reading until they have caught up with the amount of games other teams in that league have played which is at least 8.
The other tie sees Luke Tomlin's DOA up against highly fancied TX United, these are the guys who knocked out The Rodwell 2-1, they sit one league higher than our opponents in Bournemouths Division 2 in 6th places, once again with games in hand that will rise them to 2nd if they win them all. So fingers crossed we could be seeing an all Weymouth tie come the final in April.Author: GH |
top ^ 24 Dec 2008 - Darch bows to Kings
| BELVEDERE player-boss Bobby Darch heaped praise on a resurgent Kingswood side after they held his charges to a goalless draw at the Marsh.
With title challengers the Duke of Albany’s recording a handsome victory over the Punchbowl, it now means the gap between the Premiership’s big guns is just four points.
The Wood stretched their unbeaten run to four games and on their performance Darch said: “They had a very strong side out, as did we, but they played better and probably deserved to win.
“I was very impressed with the Kingswood – they gave us the tough game we expected and we just could not break them down with Simon Shapcott and Brendan King excellent at the back.”
The visitors reverted to a 4-5-1 formation and limited the champions to just one meaningful effort in the first period when Alex Halloran blazed wide from range while, at the other end, Ricky Limm, Matty Williams and Jimmy Hallett all went close.
And when Hallett was sent tumbling by Adam Anstey the Wood were unlucky not to gain a penalty. Referee Brian Parsons initially pointed to the spot but then changed his mind after consulting with a linesman.
Williams tested Paul Bosworth, who made a decent save from that set-piece, and then the hosts became more of a threat after the switch with Paul Cole’s effort well blocked by returning stopper Neil Ward.
Late on, Hallett had a goal disallowed for offside and Paul Lambert missed a golden chance for the Wood before Belve substitute Dan McDon-ald earned an instant dismissal for a dangerous tackle in what was otherwise an extremely competitive but fair contest.
After the game Wood boss Jason Wellman said: “This was by far our best performance of the season.
“The Belve are a fantastic side and over the last few years they have set the standard for everyone else to aspire to – I feel we found that level on Sunday and could have had all three points.

top ^ 8 Dec 2008 - Cup Away Day vs Dumpton Academical FC
| This Sunday (14th) The Belve face a tricky away tie Vs Dumpton Academical FC of Wimborne. Dumpton, or 'The Accies' as they like to be known play their football in Dorset League division 2 where they currently sit in 3rd place having played 8, winning 6, drawing 1 and losing 1. Scoring 42 goals and conceding 18 in the process.
Last season they finished 4th winning 17 and losing only 5 of their 22 games leaving them only 4 points off winning the league. A slight bit of fortunate news is they have their top scorer Alan Marsh suspended for our game, however we must be on our guard at all times if we want to proceed and go on to challenge for the cup honours this year.
Dumpton play their homes games at Corfe Mullen Rec and play in Royal Blue shirts/Yellow sleeves, Royal Blue shorts/socks.
Players will meet at 0830 at the Belvedere and Bobby has a full squad of players to choose from with the exception of Dan Skelton (shoulder). So lets go and get a result and keep our ambitions of the treble this season alive.Author: GH |

top ^ 22 Nov 2008 - Dorset Echo Preview 22/11/2008
| BELVEDERE player-boss Bobby Darch reckons his reigning Premiership champions are in for a “massive test” tomorrow when they take on the Rodwell at the Marsh (10.30am).
The Rodwell have already beaten title favourites the Duke of Albany this term and are just four points behind the Belve with a game in-hand. However, Darch’s unbeaten men have only conceded four goals in nine games and have also recently added more firepower up front in the form of Portland United ace Lewis Whyton.
Talking ahead of this eagerly anticipated encounter, Darch said: “The Rodwell are a very strong side but after last week’s much-improved performance when, having made changes up front, we looked strong all through the team, we will go into this one just as confident.
“My headache will be picking a starting XI with so much quality to choose from – only Leighton Hanson joins my list of unavailable players alongside Rob Maxted and Dan Skelton.”

| Meanwhile, Premiership big guns the Belvedere, Duke of Albany and the Britannia were enjoying largely one-sided victories to consolidate their lofty positions.
Bobby Darch rang the changes for the Belve’s visit to Budmouth and players such as Lewis Whyton, Justin Crawford and Paul Cole – who would walk into any other side – were demoted to a highly-experienced substitutes’ bench.
With this strength in depth on full show opponents the Lugger were always in for a torrid morning and so it proved as Nathan Aston opened the scoring in an eventual 9-0 romp after just five minutes.
Midway through the half Adam Anstey netted from close range and the visitors were in cruise control as Matt Brown finally headed in a third from Alex Halloran’s corner seconds before the break.
In the second period substitute Whyton scored the fourth and further gloss was added as the versatile Portland United talisman completed a four-goal haul. Man of the match Gary Harvey added his second and Nigel Evans followed in his own penalty miss to volley home.

| Meanwhile, back on the mainland champions the Belvedere were looking for an improved performance as they hosted the visit of the Punchbowl to the Marsh and they hit the front foot after 21 minutes when, having played the neater football, Phil Lee slipped in Rob Maxted who finished with aplomb from 15 yards.
Taking their foot off the gas the Bowl got back in contention as Aaron Williams levelled before the break with a looping header from a corner.
Early in the second period Paul Cole fizzed in a low centre for Alex Halloran and the Portland mid-fielder bent a first time shot around the Bowl number one.
New signing Lewis Whyton then clinically dispatched a penalty and the Belve wrapped up the points, and the leadership of the division, as Dan McDonald headed home from a last minute corner to make it 4-1

| THE Duke of Albany fell behind in the fifth minute but still ran out comfortable 6-2 winners over AFC Black Dog to consolidate second spot in the Premiership.
The Dog stunned the Duke when Dean Richards flicked on Ben Greenman’s corner for Wayne Day to net from close range.
But the Park Street boys responded quickly with Don Wellman crashing home a header at the back post from Luke Tomlin’s centre.
Keeper Neil Robinson’s best efforts then kept the Duke at bay until the 35th minute when Wellman latched onto a loose ball 20 yards from goal and sent a deflected shot through a crowded goalmouth and into the net.
However, just ahead of the break the Dog were undone again, this time Russell North lobbing Robinson after racing on to Darren Samways’ through ball.
Just five minutes after the restart Danny Andrews made the points safe with another lob while at the other end Lee Rockingham wasted a good chance when he blazed over from ten yards.
A minute later the Dog did pull one back when sub Andy Thomson teed up Stu Spearing and his thunderbolt from 25 yards beat Anthony Luque all ends up.
However, the Duke made it 5-2 in the 78th minute as luckless Dan Pickering scored his third own goal of the season before Andrews rounded off the scoring with his second of the morning.
The Duke are now just one point adrift of leaders Belvedere at the top. The title-holders were held to a 0-0 draw by a depleted George outfit who were missing some key men including both Ray Wellman and Chris Armstrong.
However, top-class defending from debutant James Potts and James Vincent helped the Portlanders keep the Belve at bay.
The George also had chances to win it with Grant Chance shooting wide after racing through, Mark Stamp having an effort cleared off the line and James Palmer sending a strike against the crossbar.

| Elsewhere in two closely-fought contests, the Britannia came back from 4-2 down to edge past the Lugger 5-4 at Budmouth while the Rodwell sneaked home 2-1 in their derby with the Kingswood at Redlands.
Elliot Gould sealed a win for the Brit, which was anything but plain sailing, when he pounced to net his second eight minutes from time.
Ben Milton opened the scoring in the 16th minute with his first of an eventual hat-trick but the Chickerellers hit back within five minutes and then added a second from the penalty spot before Milton brought it back to 2-2 with an exquisite lob over keeper Dan Bickerstaff.
Either side of the break the Lugger netted to make it 4-2 and it was left to Milton to complete his hat-trick before Gould stole the points for a relieved Brit.
Praising his side’s character, Steve Summers said: “Again we gave ourselves a mountain to climb but we just don’t know when we are beaten. It’s good to take all the points when we are not playing particularly well but it would be nice not to have to keep coming from behind.”

top ^ 14 Oct 2008 - Dorset Echo Report Part 3 14/10/2008
| Rodwell manager Dan Laing was in upbeat mood after his side’s victory over the Wood. He said: “This was a very pleasing performance considering we were missing probably two of our most in-form players today in Anthony Mauger and Ollie Stanton, and to get three points against a team like the Kingswood shows we are going in the right direction.”
After 15 minutes Rodwell made the breakthrough as Phil Anderson released Roger Boyd down the right and he slid the ball in neatly for Mike Flann who cleverly clipped the advancing keeper.
At the other end Jimmy Hallett was presented with two gilt-edged chances but the darting striker blazed wide on both occasions.
The Rodwell doubled their money early in the second period as Nicky Abbott’s in-swinging free kick was flicked on and there was Boyd, unmarked at the back post, to coolly head back across Nick Gregg for 2-0.
Midway through the second half a poor clearance from Gareth Heseltine, deputising in goal, was seized upon by Wood sub Michael Stone who floated a lob straight back over the stranded keeper and into the net from 40 yards.
But in the end the Rodwellers hung on for all three points leaving the Wood to rue those missed chances by Hallett, and others from Marc Williamson and Matty Williams.
Wood co-manager Adam Summers said: “On chances we deserved a point but Rodwell looked more of a team out there than we did. They were encouraging each other all the way through whereas some of our lads let us down by arguing amongst themselves.
“We have a lot of quality in the squad but that is worth nothing without a team ethic. In-order to be successful players need to support each other and stand united together.
“We have lost three games so far this season against the Belve, the Brit and now the Rodwell, and they all displayed that passion and togetherness. That is what we are missing at the moment and until we find it we will always struggle to get results against the top sides.”

top ^ 13 Oct 2008 - The George 0-0 Belvedere Inn FC
| For the 2nd week running The Belvedere have found themselves in unfamiliar territory on Portland in their quest to retain the Weymouth Sunday League Premiership, this time taking on Jamie Denny's newly promoted The George.
The Belve named a strong line up with manager Bobby Darch missing Gary Harvey (Broken Jaw), Rob Maxted (Holiday) and Dan Skelton (Tight Hamstring) setting up with a 3-5-2 formation on a large and wide Grove pitch with the intent of working the ball wide to our in-form wingers.
Although having the lions share of the possession The Belve never seemed to settle and were unable to trouble Adam Sedwell in the home goal with The George restricting the away team to long efforts with resolute defending. The George although not as technically talented as The Belve, to their credit never stopped chasing and made up for this in sheer effort and determination from every individual.
Midway through the 90 minutes the game seemed to move into a dire lull with both teams becoming sloppy in their passing and surrendering possession far to easily, much to the frustration of managers Denny and Darch who began to think about making some much needed changes. The game seemed to continue like this up until the last 10 minutes when both teams had the chance to bag 3 points.
George striker Mark Stamp will still be having nightmares over how he managed to miss an open goal from 5 yards after great work down the left by Ross Connor only for Belve's Paul Coles to miss a great chance to wrap up the points for the league leaders.
Great work by Belve midfielder Dan Mcdonald saw him round the oncoming Sedwell in the George goal and unselfishly square the ball to the advancing Coles whose tame shot from 10 yards was cleared off the line by defender James Potts.
At the final whistle it was clear to see who were the happier of the two teams as The George players deservedly celebrated whilst The Belve Boys trudged off with their 100% record no longer intact.Author: GH |
