top ^ 5 Feb 2010 - PRESS RELEASE FROM BOREHAM WOOD FOOTBALL CLUB (Part 1)
| Boreham Wood’s PASE Academy has just enjoyed an amazing last two weeks on the football front, where two of their “Under 18” Academy players, Liam Griffin and Lee Close enjoyed a two day training stint with the England ESFA Squad as Lilleshall. They also had sixteen year old Charlie Hunter playing for the England “Under 18” ISFA Team against Australia last Friday night.
If that wasn’t enough in the last ten days, the PASE Scheme has also seen Jon Clements and Jay Brett also play for the England College Team against Wales. In Jay’s case this saw him score for England on his debut and in Jon’s case following his call up to Boreham Wood’s First Team it saw him score in the 3 – 2 victory over Aveley.
While all this has been going on the various PASE teams have continued the Club’s success. In fact the “Under 18” midweek team has gone top of the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League and remain unbeaten. The “Under 19” College team has gone top of the ECFA League and remain unbeaten. The “Under 18” Sunday team has gone top of the Eastern Junior Alliance League and remain unbeaten, which will make for a very busy run in for the remainder of the Season.
In the Cup Competitions Boreham Wood PASE have advanced once again to the Semi Finals of the National Conference Cup dispatching fancied teams like Havant & Waterlooville, Halstead Town, Dartford and Basinstoke Town along the way. Now only Woking stand between them and a third National Cup Final in five years, which would make them the most successful Club in the history of this illustrious National Competition.
In the Hertfordshire F.A. County Cup, the Club’s “Under 18s” have eased into the last eight and a League and Cup treble is still available to them. While the Academy’s “Under 18” midweek team is very close to securing its fourth League title in succession, which if they do prevail, will allow them entry into the Champions of Champions Cup in April.
However it would be wrong not to write about the performances of our young seventeen year old Bradley Fraser who Captain’s the BWFC “Under 18s”. Since Bradley has answered Manager Ian Allinson’s call up to the First Team, due to injuries, it has been nothing but success for both the First Team and this dedicated young man. In fact Bradley’s record since his call up reads played five won five and it has seen the First Team rise to fourth in the League, which is testament to the lad’s performances. It surely won’t be long before the scouts at local pro Clubs begin to take a keen interest in this likeable young man.

top ^ 5 Feb 2010 - PRESS RELEASE FROM BOREHAM WOOD FOOTBALL CLUB (Part 2)
| PASE Manager, Billy Hunter said “the standards the Coaches and the boys are setting, is exceptional and improves each year. For us to have five boys on the same weekend involved with three separate England Squads is quite amazing. However, to also have so many of our PASE players making such an impact at Ryman Premier level at such a young age is a real tribute to the structure of the Club, and the desire and discipline of the boys. I’m very conscious that fatigue could hit these lads at any stage as the games are coming thick and fast. However, I’ll be speaking to our Physios and medical team to ensure they monitor all the boys game time so we can rest boys when appropriate.”

top ^ 29 Jan 2010 - BOREHAM WOOD versus HORSHAM on SATURDAY 30 JANUARY 2010
| Boreham Wood Football Club has risen to fourth place in the Ryman Football League Premier Division, following an impressive run of good results in recent weeks.
Despite the bad weather which has caused numerous postponements, Ian Allinson's young side has won four consecutive League matches, including three of them without conceding a goal.
A good mixture of some very experienced players and some very young players who have progressed through from the Club's Youth structure have blended into a formidable side. The First Team has been plagued by serious injuries to defenders Jon Wordsworth, Curtis Ujah, Kevin Stephens and Ryan Kirby and most recently to Ryan Moran.
However, "Under 18" Youth Team Captain Bradley Fraser has stepped up and looked very capable in the defence in recent matches. Greg Morgan, another Youth Team product is now developing into a First Team regular, whilst the experienced Tony Tucker has become a firm favourite, as the goalkeeper.
On Saturday, Boreham Wood entertain Horsham Football Club at Meadow Park, Kick off: 3.00pm, in a very important top of the table clash. Horsham are just two places and one point below Wood in the table, having played the same number of games.
It is vitally important that Wood extend their winning streak and provides the Borehamwood public with a great chance to visit Meadow Park and get behind their local Club.
Why not come along to Meadow Park on Saturday and cheer the lads on in what should be an entertaining and exciting game of football?

top ^ 28 Jan 2010 - YOUTH TEAM UPDATE
| Over the last two weeks not only have five boys been involved with England International honours at Youth level, but in Brad Fraser, Jon Clements, Inih Effiong, Jay Brett and Shane Bambridge we have another set of boys who are now contributing to the First Team success. It is no coincidence that the freshness of youth and the wisdom and experience of our older players that the Club has risen to fourth place in the Ryman Football League Premier Division.
Our P.A,S.E. Team has knocked out Dartford who were unbeaten in the National Conference Cup at “Under 19” level and progressed into the last eight of the Hertfordshire County Cup at “Under 18” level. Our Reserves who are all “Under 19” have also knocked out Cheshunt to advance to the Semi Finals of the Hertfordshire F.A. Intermediate Cup.
On the Academy League front the “Under 19s” still remain unbeaten in the English College League and lead their League by six points. We believe, with a little luck, that we can become that National England College Champions which would be an incredible achievement.
At “Under 18” level we remain unbeaten in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League and again having beaten the Stevenage’s, Hitchin’s and Bury Town’s we’ve opened up a nice advantage. At “Under 18” Sunday level we are also unbeaten in the Eastern Junior Alliance in our first Season and are currently sitting top of the League table.

top ^ 28 Jan 2010 - Hertfordshire F.A. “Under 18” Boys Challenge Cup – Fourth Round
| Letchwoth Garden City Eagles 1 – 3 Boreham Wood
(Hertfordshire F.A. “Under 18” Boys Challenge Cup – Fourth Round)
on Sunday 24 January 2010
Boreham Wood “Under 18s” progressed through to the last eight of the County Cup with a convincing away win against local opposition Letchworth Garden City Eagles.
Wood were extremely patient in their build up and dominated large spells of possession, moving the ball fluently, but for them not to threaten the Letchworth goal. It took first year Charlie Hunter to open the scoring late into the first half after great build up play between the dynamic centre midfielder and front man Jerry Anson, who played a cute through ball for Charlie to shimmy the advancing goalkeeper and roll the ball into the back of the net.
The second half was a reflection of the first but Wood were a lot more ruthless in their attack with many opportunities for them to double the lead. It was for influential Connor Lancaster to double the lead with great persistence in the box and he never gave up finally bundling the ball in to the goal.
Wood looked good for the win but Letchworth scored instantly and made a game of it, Wood losing concentration and not organising a set piece allowed for a free run by the Letchworth striker to head home at the near post. Wood again started moving the ball, with Letchworth now chasing an equaliser Wood were able to soak up the pressure and counter attack, the two goal lead was soon restored with Jerry Anson finding himself clear on goal for him to shift the ball on to his left foot and the inform striker curled the ball past the ‘keeper.
The game now out of sight and Wood booked their place into the Quarter Finals of the County Cup.
Manager Luke Garrard said "I was very happy with today's performance, the boys moved the ball really well, got into great positions but again didn't punish them. I find myself saying it every week, we need to be more ruthless, but what's extremely pleasing is in open play not many teams break us down and our shape is good. I was a little disappointed in the manner in which we conceded but it's a lesson the boys will learn, the aim was to be in the next Round, now we await our opponents for the Quarter Finals.”

top ^ 28 Jan 2010 - Eastern Junior Alliance – Bedfordshire “Under 16” Division
| Boreham Wood “Under 16s” 2 – 1 Bedford Town “Under 16s”
(Eastern Junior Alliance – Bedfordshire “Under 16” Division)
Sunday 24 January 2010
Boreham Wood “Under 16s” restarted their League campaign against Bedford Town at home on Sunday, following a nine week break caused by the severe weather conditions of late.
From the first whistle Wood quickly got into their stride producing a free flowing attacking style of football that at its best is very hard to defend against but chances came and went and against the run of play it was Bedford Town who broke away to score a very good goal from a move started from deep into their half. With Harvey Scott-Morris and Steven O`Connor giving a real cutting edge up front it was a game that Boreham Wood should have scored from the many chances created and the break and equaliser came on twenty minutes from a powerful well placed header from Steven O`Connor. The balance of play stayed with Boreham Wood but the score remained 1 – 1 at half time.
The second half was very much in the style of the first with Boreham Wood continuing to take the game to Bedford with the free flowing attacking football from all areas of the pitch. After some good work from Deano Rubino and a pin point delivery coming in to the ever alert Harvey Scott-Morris who dispatched it with aplomb and gave Boreham Wood a thoroughly deserved win. Boreham Wood’s impressive run of results have seen them put themselves in a strong position for the remainder of the Season.
Boreham Wood Squad: Alfie Fox, Dan Pett, George Wright, George Hunter, Harvey Scott-Morris, Marino Sawa, Hadley McCarthy, Steven O’Connor, Alfie Robbins, Harry Wright.
Subs: Craig Middleton – (Used), Cianan O’Shea – (Used), Kyle Connelly – (Used), Dean Rubino – (Used), Michael Lee – (Used).

Jay, a member of the Boreham Wood First Team Squad, still awaits his full First Team debut, but he has made one Substitute appearance this Season, whilst Jon made his full First Team debut against Sawbridgeworth Town at home in last Season’s Hertfordshire F.A. Senior Challenge Cup, and scored a goal in the 3 – 1 victory. He also scored one goal in nine Ryman Football League Premier Division Substitute appearances for the Club.
Meanwhile, two seventeen year olds, Liam Griffin and Lee Close, have both been successful in making the full England Schools Football Association Squad. Their selection is a magnificent tribute to both players and Boreham Wood Football Club. Lee has recently signed Ryman Football League forms and has been added to the First Team Squad. He looks to be a very promising prospect for the future.

top ^ 13 Jan 2010 - England Independent Schools Football Association
| UniBond Football League Premier Division Club Nantwich Town`s Weaver Stadium hosts its first International match on Friday 29 January 2010, Kick Off: 7.00pm, when England Independent Schools take on Australia Schools in an “Under 18” International Friendly match organised by the Independent Schools F.A. There is free admission for everyone to this match – with spectators being invited to make a voluntary contribution to “Help for Heroes”, the charity which raises funds for servicemen injured in current conflicts.
Boreham Wood Football Club’s sixteen year old central midfield player Charlie Hunter, who attends Ardingly College in Sussex, has been included in the E.I.S.F.A. Squad.
Independent Schools played a major part in the origins of the game of Association Football dating back to the mid-nineteenth century, and in the meetings that culminated in the formation of the Football Association in 1863. The Independent Schools have been represented on the F.A. Council since 1904 and the current Representative is ISFA Chairman David Elleray, the former Premier League and FIFA International Referee, who is now a member of the UEFA Referees Committee.
Famous past players who have come from Independent Schools include C.B. Fry, Jimmy Armfield and George Eastham. In the current professional game there are a number of established players who have appeared for ISFA Representative teams during their schooldays, most notably Frank Lampard, James Beattie and Chris Porter. In all, there are twenty-two former Independent Schoolboys currently playing in either the Premier League or the Football League – along with many more in the upper echelons of the Non-League game. Local fans will have a chance to see some of the best schoolboy players in the country after it was agreed to stage the match at the Weaver Stadium. “We have been very impressed with the facilities at Nantwich Town,” says Mark Dickson, Chief Executive of the I.S.F.A. “It is an excellent venue and we are really looking forward to the match against Australia – it should be a great occasion.”
The England Independent Schools “Under 18” team is selected from Independent Schools across the country through a lengthy regional trials process before Christmas. The match with Australia will be the first International fixture of the Season and other games will follow against Wales Schools on Sunday 7 February 2010, Kick Off: 2.00pm and the Royal Navy on Sunday 28 February 2010, Kick Off: 1.00pm.
Many of those appearing will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of James Norwood, the former Eastbourne Town forward, who played for last Season's England Independent Schools “Under 18” team before signing for Exeter City during the summer and making his League debut against Leeds United at Elland Road on the first day of this Season.

| Boreham Wood “Under 18” 4 – 3 Belstone Youth
(Hertfordshire F.A. “Under 18” Challenge Cup – Second Round)
Sunday 15 November 2009
Wood progressed through to the Third Round of the County Cup, with a hard fought win against a well drilled Belstone Youth side. With six of the goals coming in the second half it was an extremely entertaining game.
Wood took the lead with Johanes Congo, who was able to drive at the defence and bend his shot into the far corner. Boreham Wood looked the likely to increase the score line with the majority of the possession but they were undone with the final delivery which did not match the quality it deserved. After half time Wood again started the sharpest with an early opportunity to double the lead but Frazer Johns execution in front of goal was poor and he dragged his shot wide of the goal. Belstone Youth rallied and felt they had an opportunity to get something from the game. They maintained the pressure and started to play some good football, Wood struggled for the first time in the match to get out of their half, which saw Belstone Youth have their first shot which somehow deflected and fell nicely for the front man to slot home and level the score. Belstone again continued to pressure the Wood and scored an instant goal, which took an unfortunate deflection off David Sessay, to find its way into the Wood net. Wood soon knuckled down and had a goal fest with three goals in quick succession. Goals from wide man Jordan Gill lively striker Frazer John and Conor Lancaster saw Wood take a two goal lead with minutes remaining. Wood looked destined to qualify but Belstone Youth had other ideas with a goal late in the game. They were chasing the game and were able to overload their strikers which saw them work an opening to cross from wide. Wood goalkeeper Haydn Dodge dropped the cross for the sharp Belstone front man to smash home from close range.
Manager Luke Garrard Said “The main aim today was to progress and get our name into the hat for the Third Round, we didn’t play our usual fluent football, but all of the goals we scored today were of high quality and the passages of play leading up to them was awesome. We conceded a very sloppy goal which we didn’t react to and need to improve on. We have a full week of training and a game Thursday evening so we will be working to improve certain aspects of today’s game.”

| Boreham Wood 1 – 0 Waltham Abbey
(Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League – Corinthian Division 2009/10)
Tuesday 24 November 2009
Boreham Wood “Under 18s” moved five points clear at the top of the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League Corinthian Division with a hard fought victory over previously unbeaten Waltham Abbey.
With Boreham Wood fielding a very young side that included two “Under 16s”, they made it five straight League wins to cement themselves in pole position. In a very even first half there was very little to choose between two attractive sides as they looked to play football at every opportunity.
The second half started in the same vein as the first, though it must be said that the game began to get spoilt by some officious refereeing that saw bookings awarded against both sides and Waltham Abbey awarded a penalty that they subsequently missed. However it was Boreham Wood who took the lead on the hour, through defender Ruddock Yala and the home side had a great chance to seal it minutes later when Liam Griffin fired at the ‘keeper with the goal at his mercy. Wood then had two men sent off within five minutes, in a game that although competitive was never dirty.
So it was to the credit of both a nine man “Wood” and Waltham Abbey that the game still ebbed and flowed, despite a Waltham Abbey onslaught in the remaining nineteen minutes. Boreham Wood remained disciplined and despite the two man disadvantage, still broke with pace, and created two great chances themselves in the final ten minutes but hung on to deservedly win 1 – 0.
PASE Manager Billy Hunter said “Waltham Abbey are a very good side, they play good football and are well organised. Tonight we put out a very young team and the composure and understanding of our players, especially when we had to play out the final twenty minutes with nine men, showed great maturity”.
Boreham Wood Team: Baker-Owers, Close, Yala, Hobson, Fraser (Capt.), Colman, Griffin, Lawal, Scott-Morris,
O’Connor, Lancaster.
Subs: Goodchild (Used), Anson (Used), McEwan (Used), John (Not Used), Gill (Not Used).
Goal scorer: Yala.

| Boreham Wood 3 – 0 Halstead Town
(Football Conference Youth Alliance – League Cup – Second Round)
Wednesday 25 November 2009
Boreham Wood won this Conference League Cup tie with something to spare after dismissing Halstead Town 3 – 0 at Meadow Park on a blustery bitterly cold Wednesday afternoon. Wood had a new look side from the team that beat Havant & Waterlooville in the previous Round with Jay Brett and John Clements not risked pending their imminent England College trial. Luke Williams came in at right back, with Fraser John and Kieren Smith giving new attacking options. Sam King continued in goal with Mani Otira and Rakim Curtis forming the central defensive partnership. Wood bossed the first half and their constant pressing and dominant play finally paid off. Some neat play down the right by Anson and Williams, left Anson beating his full back and crossing the ball in to the box, causing confusion in the Halstead Town defence which failed to clear the ball leaving Inih Effiong to finish well on the stretch. On the half hour Otira nudged a header over the bar from a Fraser John cross. The quick wide man was proving to be a continuous threat. John finally got his reward for his attacking efforts when put through with a delightful pass from Effiong. The youngster timed his run to perfection and finished well to increase Wood’s lead. The first half continued with Wood’s relentless attacking play and with Halstead Town’s players becoming frustrated, a tension from the away side began to show, as they were unable to get out of their own half. Kabir Jeetoo came close to adding a third as he whistled a low drive across goal and beyond the far post. Halstead seemed to be looking for the refuge of half time as Wood gathered momentum for one last attack before the break with Luke Williams carrying the ball over the half way line. Williams took a touch, looked up and sent a high curling cross shot to the far post. The swirling wind did the rest and the Halstead Town ‘keeper could only parry the ball into the roof of his own net. Wood went into the break with a 3 – 0 advantage and the game seemed all but over. Halstead were now chasing the game away from home against a side clearly superior. They threw caution to the wind and came out in what looked like a far more attacking formation to begin the restart. Wood had taken their foot of the gas, though still creating chances as they climbed through the gears. Anson got an opportunity but thrashed his shot horribly wide. Substitute Forde cracked an effort inches past the far post. By the midway point of the second half Wood had wasted a hat-full of chances with Smith and Effiong the major culprits.Author: JDG |

(Eastern Junior Alliance – Bedford “Under 16s” Division)
Sunday 29 November 2009
Playing their sixth away fixture on the bounce, Boreham Wood travelled to League leaders Hitchin Town F.C., who themselves have put a run of five straight wins together, that has sent them to the top of the Eastern Alliance League and who had just two weeks earlier, sent young Wood tumbling out of the Hertfordshire County Cup. Boreham Wood were again forced to make changes through injuries and player unavailability, however this allowed latest signing Harry Wright to make his long awaited debut, and saw the central defender settle very quickly and show what an asset the young centre half will be. The game itself was one that Boreham Wood bossed from the very first whistle, producing a free flowing attacking style of football that was very hard for Hitchin Town to defend against. However to their credit, they are not top of the League by chance and they dug deep and defended in style.
With forwards Harvey Scott-Morris and Ashley Talbot giving a real cutting edge up front, Wood should have scored from three glorious chances in the first forty minutes but the score remained 0 – 0 at half time. The second half continued very much in the style of the first, with Boreham Wood playing free flowing football from all areas of the pitch. George Hunter was introduced into the centre of the park after a Season sidelined with injuries. Hunter added momentum and pace alongside “Man of the Match” Pelly Ruddock, which saw all of the midfield players involved in the winning move of the match. A pin point delivery from the impressive Marino Sawa, to the feet of Harvey Scott-Morris was dispatched with aplomb and gave Boreham Wood a thoroughly deserved lead and the win, to close the gap to a point on the League leaders, with a game in hand.
Boreham Wood who have yet to play a home League fixture, are it seems putting an away run together in the League, that suggests that this talented Squad will have a big say come May, as they look to win the Eastern Junior Alliance “Under 16” title, in their first Season.
PASE Coach Shane Bambridge said “After getting beaten by Hitchin Town in the County Cup, it was important that the players responded in the correct manner. We went into the match with a game plan, we selected a team who knew what we expected. This will give us the confidence and platform I’m sure, to push on.”
Boreham Wood Team: Dave Bastin, Kyle Connelly, Cianan O’Shea, Hadley McCarthy, Harry Wright, Michael Lee, Pelly Ruddock, Alfie Robins, Marino Sawa, Harvey Scott-Morris, Ashley Talbot.
Subs: George Wright, George Hunter, Craig Middleton, Dan Pett, Alfie Fox.

top ^ 19 Nov 2009 - THE LATEST PLAYER NEWS
| Boreham Wood Football Club has agreed to allow Joe Reynolds, its young midfield player, the opportunity to join Arlesey Town F.C. Joe was becoming impatient and frustrated at not starting every week and with the strength of the First Team Squad, it was felt that a move was in Joe’s best interest. Having come through the various Youth and PASE teams at the Club, Chairman Danny Hunter said "I would like to thank him for his sterling services over the years and wish him every success."
It has also been decided to allow Sean Sonner the opportunity to join Slough Town for a twenty-eight day Temporary Transfer period. This will allow Sean the chance to rediscover his match fitness and hopefully get himself back amongst the goals. Sean missed a large chunk of Pre-Season due to injury and it means that he can come back raring to go for the Christmas period.
Following those decisions the Club has moved quickly to secure the continuation of Luke Garrard’s extended Temporary Transfer from AFC Wimbledon until Sunday 3 January 2010. This, Manager Ian Allinson believes, will significantly strengthen the Squad and maintain the continuity of the changing room.

| Boreham Wood 1 – 0 Bury Town
(Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League – Corinthian Division 2009/10)
Thursday 12 November 2009
Boreham Wood “Under 18s” made some enforced changes for the visit of Bury Town’s “Under 18s” on Thursday 12 November 2009.
With a number of the Boreham Wood F.C. England Trialists rested, ahead of their forthcoming Schoolboy trials. It fell to others to continue to keep “Wood” unbeaten in the Southern Floodlit Youth League Corinthian Division.
Their opponents Bury Town were strong opposition, who had in fact beaten Walsall 2 – 1 in the F.A. Youth Cup, only the previous week and proved to be a tough nut to crack. However, it was the Meadow Park youngsters, who played the better football on the night, in rain lashed stormy conditions and who finally secured a 1 – 0 victory. The winner came when Jordan Gill scored directly from a corner to give Boreham Wood the lead midway through the first half. They never really looked back after that and with a 100% win record in the League to date “Wood” went back to the top of the table. With thirteen of the sixteen man Squad in their first year at the Club, this team is progressing nicely and will still be together next Season, which bodes well for the future.
PASE Manager Billy Hunter said “With the England trials etc, we got the chance to include a number of new boys, in what turned out to be atrocious conditions. In Ruddock Yala’s case, who has come through the various PASE and Sunday sides, we now know he can play at this level with ease, which is a huge plus.” Hunter continued “Others who came into the side also did well and these boys will improve even more as the Season progresses... The fact we also had Bradley Fraser and Jeremiah Anson who played tonight and both had started for our First Team forty-eight hours earlier, shows progression and says much about the PASE structure that gives youngsters a chance.
Boreham Wood Team: Cameron Baker-Owers, David Sessay, Tony Walker, George Hobson, Bradley Fraser (Captain), Ruddock Yala, Jeremiah Anson, Jordan Lawal, Harvey Scott-Morris, Daniel Tomlin, Jordan Gill.
Subs: Pelly Ruddock (Used), Conor Lancaster (Used), Fraser John (Used). Stephen Colman (Not used), Haydn Dodge (Not used).

After half time Wood again started the sharpest with an early opportunity to double the lead but Fraser John execution in front of goal was poor and he dragged his shot wide of the goal. Goals from wide man Jordan Gill lively striker Fraser John and Conor Lancaster saw Wood take a two goal lead with minutes remaining.
We have a full week of training and a game Thursday evening so we will be working to improve certain aspects of today’s game.”

top ^ 17 Nov 2009 - PASE UPDATE - ECFA ENGLAND TRIALS
| They say all good things come in three’s... and so it seems for Boreham Wood Football Club’s PASE Scheme.
Following on from Liam Griffin, Steve Colman and Lee Close progressing through the first stage of the English Schools trials at “Under 18” level... and with Charlie Hunter progressing to the final trial of the England Independent Schools “Under 18s” at the weekend.
The Club has been given even more good news, when two of their College “Under 19” team, Jay Brett and Jon Clements both successfully came through the second of their England College Football Association trials held in Bristol. Both lads will now go to Lilleshall for their final trial which will take place over a three day period, beginning on the 27th November...
Head PASE Coach Luke Garrard said “I’m thrilled that at “Under 19s” and “Under 18s” that England’s governing football bodies whether it’s The ESFA, The ISFA or The ECFA are now recognising us for the quality of the players we are attracting and players we are now producing.”
“I’m so happy for both Jon and Jay, both are good players, both have played for the First Team and both have good futures in the game. I’m also happy for the Club, the Coaches and of course Mark Dawe the principle of Oaklands College, who along with our Chairman Danny Hunter, has mapped out and targeted this route, as a marvellous opportunity for the players concerned.”
Garrard went on “However I must temper any back slapping on our part with a reality check. I don’t want any of our boys content with just a weekend at Lilleshall, then failing to make the Final Squad. I want them all hungry to represent their Country, their Club or their College, which will be a huge accolade for them. I know I’ll be doing everything in my power, to ensure they all focus correctly and give themselves that opportunity.”

top ^ 16 Nov 2009 - PASE UPDATE - "UNDER 18s" ISFA ENGLAND TRIALS
| There was even more good news for the Club's Youth structure this week when sixteen year old Charlie Hunter, who Captained last year's England "Under 16" Independent Schools Football Association team to five victories in five games, was informed he had successfully come through the third regional trial of this year’s "Under 18s" selection process.
Charlie will now take his place for the South of England team against the North of England, on Sunday 29th November at Repton School.
If the young Boreham Wood player is successful, he will be selected for the full England ISFA "Under 18" Squad, that will play the Australian Schools, the Welsh Schools, will then tour Poland, before finishing the Season against Scotland.
Boreham Wood F.C. Head Coach Mario Noto said “I’m not surprised by Charlie’s selection, he’s been playing well and he did very well for England ISFA last Season. He is technically very good, he understands the game and his leadership skills mean he normally delivers in the big games." However Noto had a word of warning for the player “any North versus South game is difficult, every boy dreams of representing England so he’ll have to perform. All we can do is prepare him properly, get him mentally right, the rest is down to him.

Hunter concluded “The three lads should be very proud of themselves but equally they must now focus and try to push on to the next level. If they apply themselves correctly, if they get the little bit of luck you need, then anything is possible.”

| Boreham Wood’s Club Captain, Curtis Ujah, is recovering well, after undergoing a cartilage operation following the recent injury he sustained playing for Watford in a Reserve game against Peterborough United.
Club Chairman Danny Hunter said “Curtis is coming along nicely and we hope he will be available to us again sometime in January.”
The Chairman was also hugely complimentary of how Watford Football Club’s Management Team, and medical department have conducted themselves. He went on “Curtis obviously got injured playing for the Hornets but they have been tremendous in every way in his aftercare, from arranging for his operation, to monitoring his rehabilitation. They have also gone as far as helping the Club with a contribution to his wages.”
Chairman Jimmy Russo, Operations Manager Iain Moody and Head of Development John Stevenson, have all acted very honourably and have at all times kept Curtis and Boreham Wood’s well being paramount in their decision making, so I thank them hugely for the respect they have shown us”…
The Boreham Wood Chairman went on to say “I would also like to pay tribute to the Watford Gaffer Malky Mackay and his Assistant Sean Dyche who along with their First Team physio have also put themselves out for Curtis, which means so much to the lad.”
“It’s very easy to write negative things in football. Watford have shown by there actions that you can turn a negative into a positive and Curtis will I’m sure return to full fitness better than ever as a footballer and wiser for the experience.”

| Boreham Wood “Under 19s” 3 – 1 Havant & Waterlooville “Under 19s”
Wednesday 28 October 2009
National Conference Academy League Cup – First Round
Wood’s thoroughly entertaining crop of young players had another opportunity to show their talents, as they began their journey in the National Conference Cup Competition with, a First Round tie at home to Havant & Waterlooville.
They settled to their task immediately when Jon Clements tried his luck from twenty-five yards after a slick move involving Jay Brett and Kabir Jeetoo. The Wood youngsters were on a mission, passing the ball and not allowing the Havant players a minute’s rest. Within minutes Inih Effiong capitalized on some slack defending, beating the goalkeeper to a back pass and coolly slotting the ball home to open the scoring. Wood then showed relentless pressure and straight from the restart, Mani Otira slid Brett in, down the line and he cut inside the full back and unleashed a powerful left footed strike that the Havant ‘keeper couldn’t hold, only for Jon Clements to rifle the ball into the roof of the net.
Wood’s two goal dream start got even better after Joel Dawes and Pierre Hall out muscled the Havant midfielders, the ball fell kindly for Effiong, who from just inside his own half rolled his marker, latched onto his big touch that took him past two defenders before slotting the ball home past the helpless advancing Havant ‘keeper. A mini fight-back then took place as Havant tried to expose Wood’s back line but Curtis and Fraser snuffed out any chances. It seemed everything was going to plan until the visitors responded with a goal on half time after some scrappy defending from the home defence that handed Havant a glimmer of hope.
Both sides tried to force the play a little in the second half but despite a handful of half chances, Wood saw the game out 3 – 1.
Manager Luke Garrard said “Job done, we didn’t play to the best of our ability in the second half and Havant made it difficult for us, but we are in the hat for the next Round and that was the aim.”

| Hillingdon Borough 0 – 2 Boreham Wood
(Eastern Junior Alliance Herts. “Under 18” League)
Sunday 1 November 2009
Wood maintained their unbeaten record in the Eastern Junior Alliance with a 0 – 2 away win against last Season’s League Champions.
A goal either side of half time ensured that Wood took all three points, the first falling to Frazer John, after a great build up from central pairing Charlie Hunter and Liam Griffin, which allowed space for Jordan Gill to deliver a cross with great quality finding Frazer at the far post and he drove home with a sweet half volley into the roof of the net. Wood looked the most threatening side again after the restart which saw Christian Bambadi latch onto a through ball from Chris Adjei, and he then skipped past the central defender, only to fire his shot wide. The game was put out of sight with Juneck Ekofo scoring his first goal for the “Under 18s”. It came from a great set piece delivery from Jordan Gill who whipped in a cross with great menace for Juneck to lose his marker and head home giving Wood a two goal lead.
Wood maintained their unbeaten record and now sit second in the League with a game in hand.
Manager Luke Garrard said “I was very happy with the performance today, we knew Hillingdon Borough would be a tough test and for us to travel away from home and keep a clean sheet is very commendable. I was very happy with our ‘keeper who hardly had a shot to save all game, but organised well and kept his concentration throughout. I thought Ruddock Yala had a “Man of the Match” performance at the back, dealing with their front man who looked lively.

| Boreham Wood 3 – 1 Barking
(Eastern Junior Alliance “Under 18” League Challenge Cup – First Round)
Sunday 25 October 2009
Wood progressed through to the Second Round of the Eastern Junior Alliance League Challenge Cup with a convincing 3 – 1 home win against Barking.
With a goal coming in the first minute of the match from Christian Bambadi, tapping home from close range after great wing play from debutant “Under 18” Frazer John, the tone was set early, which was going to be a one way game. The lead was soon doubled when Jerry Anson fired home from outside the box with his weaker foot, finding the side netting, giving Wood the lead they deserved. Wood increased the lead from a set play which saw David Sessay free in the box to direct his header goal bound giving the goalkeeper no chance of saving. Barking soon rallied and created an opening which made in form ‘keeper Cameron Baker-Owers pull off a great save. From the resulting corner Barking scored, which saw the Wood defence deal with the initial threat, which fell outside the area for a first time strike to find the bottom corner making the score line 3 –1. Wood secured the win to progress into the Second Round of the League Challenge Cup.
Manager Luke Garrard said “I was very happy in many individual performances today, especially Jordan Lawal who dominated in midfield and never mis-played a pass all game. Also the quality from Jordan Gill in the final third was excellent. We keep creating many chances but at this moment in time we are not punishing teams. Again we progress in yet another Cup Competition, which shows great quality and depth in the Squad we have available.”

Boreham Wood 5 – 1 Stotfold

Sunday 25 October 2009
Boreham Wood “Under 16s” progressed to the Second Round of the Eastern Junior Alliance League Challenge Cup with a convincing 5 – 1 victory over Stotfold.
Playing feet football from the off Wood went on the offensive from the first whistle and dominated what was to turn out to be a highly entertaining game of football. With Pelly Ruddock and Michael Lee outstanding in central midfield and a forward line looking full of goals it was not long before Harvey Scott-Morris scored the opening goal. Stotfold had no answer to the expansive football played and it was not long before Steven O’Connor was to add to his tally after last week’s hat-trick, netting from close range after some superb attacking play for Boreham Wood’s second goal of the half. The second half was very much one way traffic with both Harvey Scott-Morris and Steven O`Connor both netting another goal apiece, before the goal of the game, scored by Pelly Ruddock whose all round play earned himself the “Man of the Match” and a final score line of 5 –1 in Wood’s favour.

| Hitchin Town 1 Boreham Wood 1
(Eastern Junior Alliance – Herts. “Under 18s” Division)
Sunday 11 October 2009
With both sides boasting a 100% record in the Eastern Junior Alliance, it made for a great game which could see one team lose their impressive start to the Season. Wood started the brightest with the first chance falling to the inform striker Jerry Anson, who found himself isolating the centre half for him to skip past and drive his shot into the ‘keeper’s hands. Wood again had an opportunity with some great possession deep in their half with some one touch passing which frustrated Hitchin Town allowing Wood to pick them off and create an opening for Kamal McEwan to direct his shot just wide of the far post. Wood’s constant possession warranted goals, but the quality in the final third did not match the ability shown on the ball. Hitchin Town took the lead against the run of play with a free kick delivered into the visitors box with good quality, Wood dealt with the initial threat but the ball dropped outside the area for the Hitchin midfielder to shoot taking a deflection falling to the Town’s front man to tap home giving the home side an undeserved lead.
Wood soon rallied and drew level with a direct style of play which led to the Hitchin Town centre half not dealing with his clearance and playing a short back pass which allowed Jerry Anson to nick in and coolly take on the advancing goalkeeper to slot his attempt in to the back of the net. Soon after half time Hitchin Town looked the better side, pressing Wood high up the pitch and not allowing the away side to dominate as they did in the first half.
Hitchin had a chance to take the lead with another corner seeing their tall centre half lose his marker in the box, only to direct his header straight into Cameron Baker-Owers hands. With both sides cancelling each other out, Wood had the best chance of the game to take all three points in the last seconds, with man of the match Jordan Lawal driving at the opposition back line and passing a through ball with great quality for Jerry Anson who looked destined to give Wood the lead, for him only to be denied by the Hitchin Town goalkeeper. The game finished level with both sides taking a point and keeping their undefeated run going.
Manager Luke Garrard said “With the possession in the first half we should have made more of it! If it was a boxing match we would have won on points, that being said we had an opportunity right at the death which could have given us the win. I’m extremely happy with how the team is playing at the moment, they have been working really hard. Jerry again added to his goals already this Season and has been looking sharp.

(Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League Corinthian Division)
Thursday 15 October 2009
Boreham Wood’s “Under 18s” prepared for their F.A. Youth Cup encounter against Dunstable Town, with a comfortable
3 – 1 victory in the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League against Hitchin Town at Meadow Park. Though Wood trailed 0 – 1 at half time, to a thirty-five yard wonder strike, they had dominated throughout. So it came as no surprise when they equalized directly after the break with fifteen year old debutant Harvey Scott-Morris getting himself on the end of a fine delivery to level at 1 – 1. Shortly after this the same youngster got his and Wood’s second, with a well worked set piece delivered by Hunter to the far post, this was headed back across goal by Colman to be met on the volley by Scott-Morris who rifled the ball into the roof of the net.
The game was over as a contest, when another fifteen year old Steven O’Connor, got the goal of the game. With his back to goal he received a ball into his chest, he controlled well, before turning in one movement to strike a dipping volley into the top corner of the net.

(Eastern Junior Alliance – Bedford “Under 16s” Division)
Sunday 18 October 2009
Once again Boreham Wood “Under 16s” went into this fixture full of promise and confidence. Dictating play from the very start and setting a pace that table topping Winchmore Hill found very difficult to stay with. Boreham Wood’s passing and movement resulted in an early break through with a crisp strike from Steven O`Connor to give Boreham Wood an early 0 – 1 lead. However the lead was short lived as against the run of play Winchmore Hill equalised to give a 1 – 1 half time score.
Boreham Wood hoped its constant ball retention and pressure would take its toll on Winchmore Hill but it was Winchmore Hill who took the lead early into the second half from a well worked move and great strike. However Boreham Wood replied instantly and found an equaliser from the impressive Steven O’Connor. The Wood youngsters continued to play with pace and created a number of chances, Wood found the winner in the last five minutes from the best move of the match, when the ball dropped for Steven O`Connor to turn and volley home to complete his hat-trick. Boreham Wood saw out the remainder of the game for a very well deserved victory over the League leaders.
Manager Steve Hunter said “Today was a huge win for us. Winchmore Hill were always going to be a difficult team to play, however the boys played some fantastic football, and got a much deserved victory.”

Boreham Wood “Under 18s” progressed through to the Second Round of the County Cup with a 1 – 3 away victory against Sherrardswood & Birchwood Rangers.
Featuring no fewer than six boys making their debuts and with the game level at half time it took second year Tony Walker to open the scoring for the Wood early in the second half, with a well worked set piece. The lead was soon doubled with some neat forward play from debutant Luke Lane who slotted the ball through for Christian Bambadi whose shot took an unfortunate deflection to wrong foot the goalkeeper and give Wood a two goal lead. Wood soon put the game out of reach with a third goal, again from striker Christian Bambadi who evaded the back line and worked an opening to slot home, giving him the goal his worked deserved.
With minutes remaining Sherrardswood got themselves a consolation goal, with a delivery into the six yard box, that their striker headed home making the score line 1 – 3 to Wood.
Manager Luke Garrard said “I’m pleased with the manor in which the boys played today, taking the surface into the consideration, it limited us to playing a type of football we are not used to. The main aim was for us to progress and a victory away from home was pleasing.”

top ^ 8 Oct 2009 - WOOD YOUTH TRIUMPH IN F.A. YOUTH CUP
| F.A. Youth Cup – Second Qualifying Round
London Colney 1 Boreham Wood 2
by John Mead
Luke Garrard's promising youngsters made it three wins in this Season’s Competition courtesy of two early first half goals from Jeremiah Anson and Steve Colman. At that stage Wood looked capable of coasting through, however Colney took a side made up mainly of first Year PASE players to the wire in what panned out to be a tense and even encounter.
Wood took the lead after eighteen minutes when a clever ball through the centre of the park from Lee Close picked out the lightning quick run of Anson. With some thirty five yards to travel and in acres of space he powered into the area, beating ‘keeper Jack Ashcroft from fifteen yards.
Colney's star player James Yates then forced Billy Barnes to tip a free kick from wide on the right just over the bar, before Wood swiftly increased their lead. A superb free kick wide on the right from Kamal McEwan drew the ‘keeper off his line, only for Colman to rise Terryesque beating the shot stopper with a powerful header. Any ideas of an easy night were dispelled after 28 minutes. Colman cleared a dangerous corner off the line, but Yates served up a chance for Ben Talbot who finished low under Barnes.
Thereafter the home side settled and shaded the rest of the half. Wood failed to come to terms with their own pace up front and an error in front of defence forced Bradley Fraser to end Yates' run towards goal, for which he was lucky to receive just a yellow card. Without Fraser, who was always a dependable last man standing, the game may well have taken a different route.
The prowess of Yates was matched by the cutting edge pace and movement of Wood's Jordan Lawal who tore through the midfield with grace on occasions. Anson shot across goal from a tight angle just before the interval for Wood.
The second half featured a rather pedantic seven yellow cards, which served only to wind the players up. Close shot just over before the introduction of Charlie Hunter on the hour gave the Wood defence added protection. This allowed Anson to twice test Ashcroft in quick succession, however the custodian was in fine form. Luke Thatcher forced a fingertip save with his twenty-five yard rising drive as Wood were forced to ride out a late charge from the home side. Dan Frutuoso entered the fray for Colney and with his first touch he flicked a goal bound effort over Barnes, with Fraser forced to clear off the line, saving the need for extra time.
Eventually Wood just shaded through and eagerly await the draw for the last round prior to the professional sides entering the Competition.

| Bishop’s Stortford 0 Boreham Wood 3
(Eastern Junior Alliance – Herts. “Under 18s” Division)
Sunday 20 September 2009
A convincing away performance saw Wood take all three points against an athletic Bishop’s Stortford side. Boreham Wood started sharp with a chance from Kamal McEwan drifting in off his wing to sting the goalkeeper’s hands with a thirty yard strike. The deadlock was soon broken with some neat interplay between “Under 16” Ashley Talbot and everpresent Liam Griffin who provided an excellent through ball for Aidy Bolikango to pass the ball between the advancing goalkeeper’s legs to give Boreham Wood a one nil lead. The game settled with Wood having the majority of the possession creating chance after chance, but failing to increase the lead their possession deserved. The score line was doubled five minutes from half time with a well directed header from Conor Lancaster back across goal giving the Bishop’s Stortford number One no chance of saving. The game was finally out of sight when Boreham Wood scored their third goal, half way through the second half, on form striker Aidy Bolikango took it upon himself to round the Stortford back line to cutely dink the goalkeeper from close range. Boreham Wood ran out deserved winners and sit top of the Eastern Junior Alliance Hertfordshire “Under 18s” League.

| East Thurrock United 2 Boreham Wood 3
(F.A. Youth Cup – First Qualifying Round)
Wednesday 23 September 2009
The greatest of comebacks insured Wood’s dreams of an illustrious First Round Draw against a League Club stayed on track, with a hard fought win at East Thurrock United. United set their stall out early with every opportunity they played long into the Boreham Wood box. Wood still maintained their passing football ethos nearly taking the lead from Jerry Anson who evaded the back line only to pull his shot wide of the post. United soon took the lead with a long throw deep inside Wood’s half, with the visitors not dealing with the initial throw allowing it the bounce in the six yard box for the lively East Thurrock front man to score giving the home side an undeserved lead. This was a sucker punch for Wood who looked like the only side to break the deadlock in the game. Things got worse for Boreham Wood as United got their second after a long punt up field saw a flick on not dealt with allowing the sharp number nine to increase the lead. Wood continued to dominate possession and created some good chances, however they could not find their way past the East Thurrock United goalkeeper, leaving Wood going in at the break 2 – 0 down. Half time started with Wood boasting large amounts of the possession, but yet to score. After a flurry of chances and dominant possession, Wood finally got the goal they deserved, when Jordan Lawal’s through ball saw Jerry Anson drive into the East Thurrock United box for the pacy striker to smash the ball home giving Wood the life line they needed. From there on the pace of the game grew, again creating some clever opportunities, but again unable to convert. As the game entered the final seven minutes Wood drew level as Kamal McEwan worked an opening for him to cross into the box for Liam Griffin, who timed his run to volley from close range, and hit the roof of the net. With extra time looming, Wood once again played some great football passing and opening up gaps in the East Thurrock United defence, coming close on a number of occasions. With extra time just seconds away Liam Griffin’s pass found Kamal McEwan in the final third, and he drove at the full back with pace to find his yard and cross with great precision for Jerry Anson to double his goal tally for the evening, coolly passing his finish into the back of the net, giving Boreham Wood the lead, and an outstanding finish to an electric Cup tie. As the Referee brought the game to an end, Boreham Wood confirmed their progression into the next Round after a great comeback worthy of any F.A. Cup fairytale. Coach Mario Noto said “We showed great character tonight to come back from a two nil deficit away from home. We know our football is going to hurt teams and tire them out, this showed with us scoring three goals in the last twenty minutes. We know we have to defend better, but the main thing is we are in the hat for the next Round.”Author: JDG |

| Tilbury 3 Boreham Wood 5
(Eastern Junior Alliance – “Under 18s” Challenge Cup – Preliminary Round)
Sunday 27 September 2009
An open game saw two good footballing sides impress in front of goal. With Tilbury progressing through to the F.A. Youth Cup Third Qualifying Round on Wednesday, Wood had their toughest test yet. It was the home side who took the lead with a long ball for their wide man to beat the offside trap to open the scoring. Wood soon levelled with a long range shot from central midfielder Liam Griffin, which caused the goalkeeper problems, and he dropped the ball for the alert Aidy Bolikango to level the score. Aidy doubled the lead, with another bright bit of play from his strike partner Christian Bombardi, who evaded three challenges to finally get his shot in only for the goalkeeper to pull off a great save. Only he did not push it wide enough, and with Aidy’s striker instinct finding himself free in the box to slot the ball into the back of the net, to give Wood a deserved lead. Tilbury rallied and with minutes left until half time, their impressive attacking midfielder scored the goal of the game, driving at the Wood defence with nowhere to go it seemed, as he looked up and found Haydn Dodge off his line, he expertly clipped the ball over the advancing ‘keeper’s head to level the score. After half time Wood soon regained the lead with a goal from a set piece, Kamal McEwan delivered with great quality for right back Lee Close to lose his defender and volley home from close range giving Wood a 2 – 3 lead. Tilbury showed their resilience to again level the score, with neat play between both forwards, and a cute through ball not being dealt with, which allowed the Tilbury front man to tap home from twelve yards. Half way through the second half Christian Bombardi found himself in the Tilbury box with his back to goal, with some great feet allowing him to work a shot, squeezing it between the ‘keeper’s arms at the near post. There was no room for any comeback as Wood increased the lead minutes from getting the fourth, with Substitute Jerry Anson curling his shot into the side netting to give Wood a 3 – 5 lead. Wood advanced through to the next Round of the Challenge Cup, with a great game against a well respected Tilbury side. Manager Luke Garrard said “To go to Tilbury, who had a convincing win on Wednesday evening in the F.A. Youth Cup, and score five goals shows our attacking strengths. With four different goal scorers, shows we have goals in the team. It was an open game and speaks volumes about the level of football the Eastern Junior Alliance can provide.

| Boreham Wood 9 Buckhurst Hill 0
(Eastern Junior Alliance – “Under 16s” Challenge Cup – Preliminary Round)
Sunday 27 September 2009
On the back of two very strong displays Boreham Wood “Under 16s” went into this fixture with high expectations and with a full Squad to pick from for the first time. Setting the pace from the onset, Boreham Wood simply passed around their Buckhurst Hill opponents looking to play expansive attacking football at every opportunity. The pressure told after just fifteen minutes with some crisp one touch football that allowed Steve O`Connor to find the space to open the scoring. On a good playing surface Boreham Wood enjoyed the majority of the ball and from some one touch football Boreham Wood got their rewards going 2 – 0 up through Marino Sawa. The second half was a joy to watch and for forty minutes, the best display to date from this talented and hard working Squad, who played with freedom and control, with every player contributing towards an entertaining display of all out football. Their movement, awareness and skill produced a constant stream of attacks from all over the pitch and was to prove too much for a gritty and determined Buckhurst Hill side. Harvey Scott went on to score a superb second half hat-trick, and with goals from Dean Rubino one, Ashley Talbot two and an Alfie Robbins goal that proved to be the best move and execution of the match. Manager Steve Hunter said “A special mention must go to the whole Squad, which we have encouraged to believe in one another and that is already showing in their football.”
