top ^ 3 Jan 2010 - Braves take Pride Park title again
| Chesapeake achieved success again in the Pride Park Juniors Christmas Tournament after an impressive showing from start to finish.
This year we enjoyed the luxury of playing at our own age level but we knew that we would be the team to beat on the day and therefore the one that all the other sides would be most up for.
We needed to match our opponents desire in every game to earn the right to let our superb passing football do the talking. The age group consisted of one big section meaning seven group games leading to semi-finals and final.
I was delighted that the lads won EVERY game conceding just three goals all day, a full breakdown of our results can be seen as a separate news item. We also received tremendous support from Mums, Dads etc - thanks to all.
But - the real heroes on the day were the team:-
Jaques Barker - Just three goals conceded speaks volumes. In 6-a-side the other side will always create chances but Jaques had all the answers making a string of fine saves. He really made the difference in games against Belper and Toton.
Rob Bailey - Nobby played a lone role at the back and not much gets past him. He was very dependable showing excellent concentration levels and use of the ball. Scored 1 goal against Breedon Wanderers.
Sam Torrance - Sam played an anchor midfield role with tremendous intelligence. Often breaking down the opposition and starting our own passages of play. Scored 4 goals including the crucial equalising strike in the semi-final.
Morgan Emanuel - Apart from a brief stint at the back Morgan played the left-side of midfield showing great determination and ability. His powerful strike against Toton in the group stage gave us the foundation to build our tournament on. Scored 5 in total with one each in the semi and the final.
Jayden Cotterill - Jay really showed his class as the day went by working really hard on the right side. His skill and pace was a constant threat to our opponents. Scored 3 goals including one fantastic strike in the semi-final.
Myles Stokes - My Player of the Tournament, he always love this one it brings the best out of him with silky skills and crucial goals. He scored 9 goals in all including a brace in the final to cap a memorable day.
Ben Ormston - Ben was a vital squad member today playing in all but one match and showing a tremendous attitude. He played on the left or up-front and scored a crucial goal in the opening game against Doveridge.
Matty Mason - Matty was being nursed back from injury but was not to be stopped from a run-out. He was tremendous in the short bursts his body (and his Dad) would allow but had to play the full match against PPJ. Scored 2 goals during the group stage.
Tremendous display from all of you lads - you made Dave, Jamie and myself proud of you all today.Author: RT |

top ^ 31 Jul 2009 - Littleover Villa Cougars 4 Chesapeake 4
| Our third big-pitch friendly was against another good and physical side in Littleover Villa Cougars.
It was an excellent workout and provided plenty of learnings in preparation for the coming season.
After taking the lead through Jayden we struggled for the rest of the first 20 minutes going 2-1 down and not managing to keep hold of the ball and territory.
In the 2nd third we improved and drew level through a strike from Mark before losing some shape again to fall behind 4-2.
The final period saw us take a stranglehold on the game and good goals from Jayden and Ben brought the scores level, we pressed for a winner but were denied by some stubborn defending.
I was pleased with the improvements shown later in the game by our backline who were starting to be first to the ball and distribution improved. We also began to link better between the midfield and attack creating a higher proportion of chances as the game progressed. Matty and Ben are bedding into the side really well and both had fine games whilst also learning new positions which offer us more options.
Still lots of improvements to be made but this was a much better display than against Ilkeston.
Well done ladsAuthor: RT |
top ^ 19 Jul 2009 - Friendly vs Ilkeston Town
| For our second friendly we played Ilkeston Town who have always given us competitive and close matches, this was to be no exception.
We expected Ilkeston to be well-organised, strong and physical which would offer a good examination of the team.
Again we suffered from a reduced line-up missing Mark, Matty, Toby and Owen, this restricted us to 12 players including debutant Joe.
Ilkeston started strongly and our defence had a rocky opening 10 minutes during which we went one down to a ball over the top. We then started to get a foothold in the game and control the bulk of posession. On 22 minutes Ethan fed a ball from deep to Jay who beat the Ilkeston backline for pace before slotting home. Ten minutes later an excellent cross from Sam gave Myles the chance to head home clinically.
At 2-1 up we looked good value to stretch the lead further but chances were restricted to a few.
In the last 10 minutes Ilkeston showed better levels of fitness to put us to the sword with three similar goals and earn a 4-2 victory. The scoreline looked harsh at the end but friendlies are about learning and progressing.
We stuck to our principles of pass and move which allowed us to dominate the ball but today we lacked some cutting edge. Morgan performed well in midfield but we missed his presence at the back and must improve our ball winning and positioning in this area. The return of Mark and Matty will give us the injection of pace that we lacked at times and we need to play some more direct balls at times to stretch the opposition.
Don't be downhearted lads - Ilkeston gave us exactly the challenge we needed and with a full squad I am confident we would have delivered a different result.

top ^ 4 Jul 2009 - Chesapeake 14 Mickleover All Stars 0
| The first 11-a-side match was a comprehensive victory based on an impressive display of posession football.
Illness and unavailability restricted us to the bare bones of 11 players who would be asked to put in the full hour in hot conditions at the excellent Derby Moor facilities.
Mickleover should be commended for battling throughout against our very strong line-up and I am sure they will learn from the experience.
Jaques had a quiet game in goal but retained concentration well. Ahead of him the defensive four rotated between Ethan, Rob, Morgan, Billy and Owen they held a good line throughout with a solid and professional display. Our midfield trio of Sam, Mark and a variety of others were first to the ball and retained possession intelligently. Then we had what seemed like the red arrows up-front with Myles, Jayden and debutant Matty - their pace, power and craft will cause chaos to many defences this season.
The goals were supplied by Matty (3), Jayden (4), Myles (3), Mark (2) and Morgan (2) - Sam dominated the assists (5).
Before kick-off I asked the lads to concentrate on keeping posession with good movement, composure and communication - they did not disappoint.
It is the first step but a successful one on which to build. Very well done to you all.Author: RT |
top ^ 25 Jun 2009 - Derby City League Division 1 - 2009/10
| The Leagues for next season have now been announced and I am pleased to confirm that we have been placed in Division 1.
The top 6 teams from our division last season all feature in our league again - Littleover Villa Lions, Spondon Dynamos, Chellaston Rams, St George's, Belper Town and (of course) Chesapeake.
Sandiacre Town also make the step-up to the big league and should be strong. We are also joined by Belper Sports, Boulton Lane, Duffield Dynamos and Field Lane. These details are provisional should a team apply and be granted a move to a different division.
I am not sure when Ladbrokes are likely to release the odds on winning the league - watch this space.Author: RT |
