top ^ 18 Aug 2009 - Important Player Information
| Important Information from last night’s League meeting 17th August 2009:
1. This season the league will be adopting the pre-match ‘line up and hand shake’. As seen before Premier and football Leagues matches . This will take place on the pitch directly prior to kick off and will involve all 11 starting players. Substitute players need not take part.
2. This season the League will not allow any jewellery whatsoever. This includes wedding rings etc and you will not be allowed to tape over any item. There will be no exceptions including anything worn for religious reasons. Any player unable to remove an item of jewellery will not be able to play. Any player who subsequently replaces any item removed for the referee’s inspection is liable to receive a yellow card.
3. As ever, and quite rightly, the conduct of players towards referees will be under close scrutiny. Particularly after the events of last season when there was a serious assault on a referee. The player in question will not play in the Evesham League again and is banned from playing anywhere for a considerable period of time. The Evesham League enjoys more referees than many other Leagues which translates into almost all matches having a referee. A fact that we should be grateful for. There is also for the first time this season a female referee, Dave Selby’s daughter, and a number of rookie referees who should all be treated with respect and encouraged.
4. The League encourages teams to use the Club Captain as a spokesman and to act as liaison between players and the referee. This is something that we have employed as a Club for a while and we should continue.
5. This season referees are going to be more vigilant with regards to bad language whether or not aimed at any of the match officials. In theory a player could be sent off for swearing inadvertently after missing a goal etc. I am hopeful that there will be a degree of common sense applied by referees, but it is a subjective issue to a degree. We play generally in areas where there are often children in the vicinity and for that reason alone foul language is totally unacceptable. It’s a difficult one but you have been warned!
6. The respect initiative will continue to gain momentum this season and players are reminded that this applies to each and every one of us associated with the club including spectators. From time to time updates are pinned to the notice board in the rec building. You know what it’s about please take note.
Finally as a club we will be judged not just by our actions on the field but by our attitude towards fair play and respect. We have a reasonable disciplinary record but we can improve. This season let’s cut out any stupid stuff and concentrate on our football and winning games!
Stuart
