In what was a great game, the Lions beat Merton Royals 2-1 in the final of the Senior Charity Cup at Leatherhead FC. We had to withstand some spells of real pressure in the final 15 minutes to hold out for victory. Our team spirit, will to win attitude and quality saw us win the cup.

Get in there boys. Well done to all associated with the Lions. Also, many thanks to all the family, friends and loved ones who came to watch us and gave us much needed support!

This is our first season as Reigate Priory Lions and our first season in the Leatherhead & District league. We were previously known as White Lion FC. The club was formed in 1993 and played in the Redhill & District since our move last season.

Some real legends have played a part in getting the club to where it is today. They know who they are so they don’t need to be mentioned in name here. But on the 14th May, one has to be. The founder of the club was Oliver O’Boyle (the Gaffer’s dad). He passed away 6 years ago today. Having seen the Lions play in a number of finals during his time as Chairman of the club, he is sure to be looking down on today’s side with immense pride. Let’s hope the boys can win the cup in his memory.

Matty Evans
John Mcbride
The Lions number one. Macca is a top quality goalkeeper. He is a superb shot stopper and has a massive presence. An outstanding kicker of the ball. His diet of plenty of fish and cider keeps him fit.

Chris Smart
Griffu returned to the Lions side this season after a few years in self imposed retirement. An energetic full back that will run up and down the pitch all day. A very consistent performer.

Chris England
Chrissy E has nailed down the left back position in the Lions side for the last 6 seasons. He is very comfortable on the ball and is always looking to join in with the attack. His recent exploits have included running the London marathon and opening the China branch of the Lions supporters club.

Joe Chandler
An ever present in the Lions side this season. His commitment to the cause is never in doubt. A player who is comfortable playing in either defence or midfield. He will be a key player for the club for many years to come.

Andy Castle
Cus the Cow is a great team man. He would run through brick walls for his team mates. He has a physical presence, a great work ethic and a massive will to win. He is also very good in the air. He also acts at the team’s chef and music man.

Jamie David
A very composed and talented defender. He will look to start attacks from the back. Another very consistent player. Has just renewed his sponsorship deal with Jack Daniels.

Ollie O’Boyle
Manager and heartbeat of the side both on and off the pitch for the past 10 seasons, Gaffer O'Boyler has led the team to 5 cup finals in the last 7 seasons. A versatile player that offers good ability on the ball, Ollie has found his home in the midfield holding role this season.
Favourite quotes include ' lets not worry about who's not here' and 'lets play football and enjoy it lads'.’ Famous for his internationally recognisably double handed slap on the ground when things not going his way.

Michael Che
Hard tackling midfielder. Will work his socks off for the side. He has added goals to his game this season and comes into this match in superb form. A player with a bright future in the game.

Kev Terry
Quick, direct and multi talented forward. Has not been available for the Lions as often as we would have liked due to injury and international team commitments. But we are pleased to have him available today. A potential match winner for us. We are helped by the fact the game is close to home as he doesn’t like travelling.

Matty Evans
Another ever present this season. The team’s focal point and talisman. He has 8 goals in 3 games in this cup run, and 27 in total for the season. If the Lions are to win today, Matty will play a big part in it.

Justin David
Classy athletic attacking player. He can operate in a number of roles for the team and is a Gaffer favourite. His uni commitments have meant we haven’t had him available as often as we’d like. Another potential match winner.

Leroy Hyett
Christian Smith
Smithy is a great person to have in the squad. He is comfortable on either side of the pitch and his versatility makes him a real asset to the side. Thinks he is the best looking player at the club.

Dom Brameld
An unbelievable club man. Without his support the club would not run as smoothly as it does. He is also a good defender. Strong in the air, has a breeze block left peg and a monster long throw.

John Penalver
JP has the best trick in Sunday league football. Will he bring it out tonight? You’ll have to wait and see. An experienced player. His ability to keep the ball, offer great width and his fantastic crossing make him a real asset.

Luke Reid
The Body joined the club mid way through the season. Lovely lad who never lets the team down. His pace, power and finishing ability makes him a handful for opposition defences.

Leroy Hyett
A great finisher with both feet. Injuries have limited Tubes’ appearances this season. Is very level headed and doesn’t blow his own trumpet at all.

David King
Although Kingy has been unable to hold down a regular starting berth in the side, his attitude and commitment have been first class. He never lets the side down and does a good job when called upon. A skilful wide man who pitches in with his fair share of goals as well.

Chris Page
Pagey’s work rate is first class. He is a scorer of great goals. A long servant to the Lions. His goal return over the years has been good. Injury may keep him out of this game which is a shame.

Jon Tyler
Tyles is an experienced player who provides good cover in defence or midfield. Another players who appearances have been restricted by injury this season. But he is a valued member of the squad.

After todays 2nd round win against Brockham Green, we move into the quarters finals where we will play Fetcham United. This will be 'home' game for us. As we don't have our pitch at RPFC, this game is likely to be Bletchingley FC.

The winners of that game will play Premier division Ewell Village United who overcame the very strong Tolworth side today.

Matty Evans
Reigate Priory Lions striker Matty Evans has been selected in the Leatherhead representative squad for their fixture against the Morden & District representative side. The game is being played on Wednesday 24th February 2010 at Sutton United FC.

All connected with the club would like to wish him well for this game. His continued good form and goalscoring record shows that he is fully worthy of a place in the squad.

Any support for Matty and the rest of our league representative squad on the night would be appreciated. It is free to get in and the game should be of a good standard.

News item4 Jan 2010 - Games........

....... or should we say lack of them!

January has started the same way that December went, with games either being called off, cancelled or not allocated.

13.12.2009 - no fixture assigned to us.
20.12.2009 - snow put pay to home game versus AFC Lanes.
3.1.2010 - frozen pitch puts pay to home game with AFC Rhodrons.
10.1.2010 - the fixture computer again throws out no fixture for us.

Very frustrating, but with more bad weather predicted for this week, whether we would have played this sunday morning would be open to debate anyway.

So we must wait until 17.1.2010 for our next game. The joys of Premier division Belmont (and their 100% record this season) in the Senior Challenge Cup awaits us.

Click here for further information on Joe Chandler
Joe Chandler
Joey C is the first to answer the questions about his team mates. Here are his replies (and comments) to questions about his fellow Reigate Priory Lions players.

Best Trainer - Castle. Always gives 100%.
Worst Trainer - Castle again. Terrible feet and ball control.
Fastest player - Trev, meep meep.
Slowest player - Doma.
Joker - Hard one - few comedians in the ranks. I'd have to say Matty on that one. He makes everyone laugh.
Biggest Moaner - there are a few, but for consistency, I would have to say Ollie.
Most Intelligent - Chrissy E - he must be clever, he is on flexi time.
Least Intelligent - Castle
Worst taste in music - Ollie. Irish tape....!
Worst dress sense - Pagey. Reebok classics and sleeveless jumper.....
Best Dancer - between me and JP, but i would fancy myself in a dance off.
Worst dancer - Matty, although he does rate himself.
Most skilful - JP. Love the Kanu trick.
Best mate - Former player on this one. Dean Gunner. I really miss him.
And finally...
Longest in the shower - Castle. Shaved chicken fillet balls.

We currently have three of our first team squad injured, and we are unlikely to have them back in the side any time soon.

Leroy Hyett has broken a bone in his foot.
Christian Smith has a ankle injury.
Kev Terry has a sprained ankle

We wish these three a speedy recovery and hope to see them back in the Gold & Black soon.

On the plus side, regular visitors to this site will see that we have completed the signing of Luke Reid, who is a key player for the Reigate Priory Saturday first team. He is a very versatile player, and has shown in his first two games for us that he will be a great signing.

Also, after months of trying, we managed to obtain two passport photos for John Penalver a few weeks back. All at RP Lions are delighted that the ultra skilful left winger is part of the side.

Jamie David
On the eve of the new season, we were dealt a massive blow with the news that Jon Tyler will not be able to play for us as his knee won't hold up to playing football any more.

This left a vacancy as team captain. Jamie David has been appointed to the role. He is a incredibly consistent performer and one of the first names on our team sheet. He is sure to do the job very well, and we look forward to him hopefully lifting some silverware at the end of the season.
