CLUB DETAILS
Stockton FC changed its name from the beginning of the 1999/2000 season to Thornaby-on-Tees FC and for the 2000/01 season its name again to simply Thornaby FC. Thornaby FC are in Northern League first division for this season 2003/04 as the were promoted last season from the second division.
The orginal Stockton and Athletic Football club was formed in 1882, over 50 years won many honours in the Northern league. 30 season were sent on other leagues until due to finacial problem, disbanded, in 1975, and Victoria ground was sold.
The new club was formed in 1980 when a successful Stockton and District League side, Stockton Cricket Club, changed its name. Stockton FC were elected to the Wearside League in 1980/81 season. They spent 2 season at Grangefield Youth and Community Centre before moving to Tilery Recreation Centre. In 1982/83 the club reached the final of the Sunderland Shipowners Cup and won the league Sportsmanship Cup.
In 1983 Stockton FC took another major step forward by moving to Teesdale Park, Thornaby.
Despite finishing bottom of the Wearside League, Stockton FC were elected to the Northern League in 1985.
Won the North Riding County Cup in 1986, and the second division Championship in 1987/88.
Disaster followed in the summer of 1989 when vandals destroyed the dressing rooms and stand by fire. The club has had mixed fortunes, the team won Second division Championship in 1991/92, were relegrated in 1993/94, but retured to the First division the year after.
Thornaby on tees was born in the new millennium, but after being relegated that season in 2000/01, changed their name to Thornaby FC and swiftly returned to the First Division.The manager Trevor Arnold and his company K Home Engineering as the main sponsor of Thornby FC.
Thornby were relegated again but this season 2003/04 moved back up to the First Division and the future looks bright for Thornaby FC.
