Newcastle Medics Ladies FC were formed in the Autumn of 2005, after the two renegade deposed managers of the men's side needed a new pet project.
After suffering the embarrassment of being the only University without a women's team at the NAMS international tournament in April, much hard work has gone in behind the scenes to ensure that the wrong is righted with immediate effect.
Already entered into NAMS 2006, the players who ultimately travel to Southampton on April 1st face a stiff challenge as they seek to put Newcastle on the Women's football map. With several friendlies and sponsorship deals in the pipeline, these are exciting times ahead for Newcastle Medics Ladies FC.
Medics Ladies other aim is to promote women's football in and around the Medical School. While only 15 players can ultimately be named in the NAMS squad, if initial interest is anything to go by the club could well ultimately support a second team, (something even the men struggle to manage) and also run recreational training sessions for anybody who is interested.
