Parktool is a Dundee based engineering company. It was founded in the early
80s by Chris Mudie and has grown from strength to strength ever since. In
2003 Chris provided the team with it's first cash injection allowing us to
purchase the strips currently used by the club.
The strip was chosen by Colin Crosbie and Gerry Mooney.
The sponsor displayed on the chest of the strip, Sidlaw Travel, is a local
based travel company. This sponsorship deal was secured by Gerry Mooney
during a booze filled night in MacDaniels pub, Whitehall Crescent in Dundee.
The owner of Sidlaw Travel, Bob Costello, was more than happy to help the
team out and said that seeing Sidlaw Travel on the shirt is enough to bring
a tear to a glass eye.
Parktool Athletic entered the Saturday Morning Friendly League at the start
of the 2003/4 season. Current squad members who featured in the first couple
of games are Gerry Mooney, Colin Crosbie, Ally Pretswell, Jim Roberts and
'Nasty' Nick Sturrock. Our first ever game, a cup game, resulted in a 9-1
defeat against the Cartel, we had ten men for the whole game. Nasty Nick got
on the score sheet and Colin Crosbie scored an own goal. Gerry Mooney was a
no show and this spawned a hate campaign by Ally Pretswell to force Mooney
into the wilderness. Bad organisation and lack of persuance on Pretswell's
part resulted in Gerry Mooney remaining with the club. Both remain sworn
enemies to this day.
Long gone are those days of controversial in house riffs, now Parktool is
looking forward and has a squad of talented and committed players who give
their all when playing. Such progress has not gone unnoticed and is
reflected in a new over-seas sponsorship deal which will go a long way to
helping the team get new strips for the start of our next league campaign.
Other local sponsorship and some team fund raising will also aid this cause.
To date Parktool Athletic have one trophy to their name, a cup that was won
on penalties at the start of the 2005/06 season against Woodside FC. This is
a clear sign of the progress this club is making and will hopefully be a
sign of things to come in what looks to be a bright future.
