CLUB DETAILS
Wizard Wanderers play in all blue and are currently sponsored by T. Clarke.
They are currently playing their games at the Imperial Sports ground, Bristol.

HISTORY
Wizards were formed in 1993 when Jeff Barnes, (fed up with the cliquey atmosphere of his works team and not being picked), decided, with a few mates, to set up their own team. Despite concerns that they would never see their money again each came up with about £200 to buy a kit and pay for pitch fees etc etc. Jeff’s brother Ken Barnes ran his own business (Wizard property maintenance) and helped pay for the kit – hence the name Wizard Wanderers.
As funds were tight we could only afford one kit so it had to be original and not clash with anyone – the result looked like a puked up pizza from the night before – fluorescent orange and white paint splodges covered in random black wiggly lines. It certainly wasn’t going to clash with anyone else and served a second purpose in making the opposition feel sick on a Sunday morning.

Wizards joined the Bristol Wessex league in 1993 and the first season was enjoyable but a struggle, only winning three league games and conceding nearly a hundred goals! It could only get better.
The following seasons saw players coming and going and a gradual improvement in the teams results which resulted in two promotions up to division one.

In 1997, due to the lack of referees, Wizards decided to resign from the Wessex League and join the Bristol + District Sunday League.
Put straight into division 3, our warning to the league that we were not “that good” fell on deaf ears and subsequently we finished bottom and were relegated to division 4 with only two wins to our name.
Players were despondent and left so to survive we amalgamated with another team called Jellystone Park Rangers but kept the Wizard identity. Over the next few eventful years we have been promoted three times and relegated once and currently play in division 2.

Today and the Future

The current status is that Jeff is the only original member surviving (although he gave up playing 4 years ago after breaking his leg and ankle in three places (aka – David Boost, Alan Smith). He is currently Manager and Secretary, assisted by his other (good) half Helen who is treasurer, Chairman Rob Giles and Assistant manager Mike Pring.

Most teams made up of friends /colleagues that are self financed and with no sponsorship usually end up folding when the originals are too old, but, due to the hard work by everyone Wizards defy these odds and continue to survive.
With new sponsorship from T.Clarke enabling us to purchase a new kit and at least ten players 21 or younger the future looks very very bright. (a bit like our original kit lol)
