The club was formed in 1978 from an idea by Bob Cunningham and Dave Cohan. Bob and Dave asked Bobs father an ex-semi pro for advice, he approached Pat Cunningham the now long serving secretary who applied to the leeds sunday league and was accepted into the league. (first ever team photo of Northern Star 1978/79 can be seen in our picture section) The name Northern Star originates from the Northern Star Police Office in Glasgow and dates back to world war one.
