top ^ 15 Apr 2009 - Boreham Wood F.C. “Under 16s” 3 – 2 Leyton Orient F.C. “Under 16s”
| Boreham Wood’s “Under 16s” did no harm to their growing reputation, with a tough and well organised performance against Leyton Orient, who boasted great quality amongst their ranks. After thirty minutes it was Wood’s youngsters who controlled the game. Wood dominated the midfield with Hunter, Farrelly and Griffin imposing themselves on the opposition. However the opening goal took a good free kick from Wood to give them the lead. Farrelly playing the ball short for Liam Griffin to hold his run and curl the ball delightfully into the far top left hand corner of the net. The game again levelled out and the half finished with Wood leading 1 – 0. The second half began and the pressure paid off and Orient soon levelled the score with a long distance shot. The game turned again in favour of the Wood youngsters, who after seeing their lead disappear rallied. Great wing play from Substitute Jimmy Talbot who chopped back inside to deliver a ball of great quality towards the back post, for Conor Lancaster to head the ball home. Orient were quick to put Wood on the back foot, pressing high up the pitch and making it difficult for the home side to continue playing out from the back. Orient’s pressure again paid off, with them once again equalising from an acute finish. With the game now level Wood had an opportunity to take the lead. The winner however did come when Charlie Hunter clipped a ball into the front mans Kyle Vassels feet, for him to wrap a curling left foot shot into the bottom corner, to seal the 3 – 2 win, which the home side just about deserved. Wood Academy Coach Mario Noto said “We again produced a very professional and disciplined performance, we introduced two or three new players which was a positive. Those boys needed a little time to adjust but even with the new Squad members, we looked organised and maintained the style of play we promote at the Club. Next Season is a big year for our new recruits. We can see great progress for this young crop of boys”

He scored Staines Town’s first ever goal in the F.A. top ^ 12 Mar 2009 - PROGRESS UPDATE FOR BOREHAM WOOD F.C. UNDER 18 ACADEMY SIDE (PART ONE)
| Boreham Wood’s “Under 18” PASE Academy rounded off another fine week for the Youth structure at Meadow Park, with a comfortable victory over local rivals Barnet, to move to the top of the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth “Under 18’s” League.
It is testament to Wood’s youngsters, and the Club’s coaching system, that full time Pro’ Clubs like Barnet and Stevenage Borough are being left behind Boreham Wood in Youth structure footballing terms.
Wood’s “Under 18’s” side will now look to retain their Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League title, in what is the toughest “Under 18’s” League, outside the pro. set ups.
“Having comfortably beaten the Barnet’s and Stevenage’s of this world and to be five points clear with five games to go tells its own story. We now have to finish it off” said Academy Manager Billy Hunter. He continued “I know the locals are very proud of our youngsters, we have also reached the F.A. Youth Challenge Cup First and Second Round Proper in each of the last two Seasons. While reaching the National Conference Cup Final twice in the past four years. In fact our Youth support, is sometimes larger than the First Team, which shows you how entertaining these young players are.” Hunter went on to explain “All of our boys at the Club are educated in Partnership with Oaklands College and we have to work extremely hard to create the right balance, between their studies and football, which we seem to be getting right.” He continued “The success recently of the Club’s “Under 16’s”, who have recently beaten Luton Town and Tottenham Hotspur “Under 16’s” at Meadow Park, shows our progress is sustainable year on year.”

top ^ 12 Mar 2009 - PROGRESS UPDATE FOR BOREHAM WOOD F.C. UNDER 18 ACADEMY SIDE (PART TWO)
| Oaklands College principle Mark Dawe said “The College is delighted with the level of performance the students are achieving in their football with the Club and on the academic side with ourselves. Together we have created one of the best Schemes available, not just in Hertfordshire but nationally. As a College we pride ourselves on giving students great choice. With this Scheme, our students get a range of “A” level, B-Tec, and construction courses offered. Plus we also offer them Level One and Level Two, F.A. Coaching Courses.”
Danny Hunter's thoughts as Chairman are...
To get the level of success we are achieving, takes years of planning. We have to say a big thank you for that improvement over the last four years, to the Local Council. especially Councillors Morris Bright, Jean and Martin Heyward. They all backed our plans and vision to build our improved Training Facilities, which were vital to us. We also have to thank Paul Glen and everyone at Cardif Pinnacle for their continued main Sponsorship agreement. This helps us fund and invest in our Scheme to make it the best of its kind year on year. It’s very important for everyone to remember, we are here to Coach and improve the students footballing skills, so we must be very honest with our appraisal of their footballing ability. However, we have talented Coaches in a fabulous footballing environment which enables us, to strike that balance. We have players of all abilities, improving hugely, all looked after medically with our full time Physio Department, so we’re a well rounded Club.
We are also very lucky to have an education partner like Oaklands College. They are people who trust us to deal with the football side. While they deal with the education aspect of our Scheme, which of course they are the experts in.

top ^ 12 Mar 2009 - PROGRESS UPDATE FOR BOREHAM WOOD F.C. UNDER 18 ACADEMY SIDE (PART THREE)
| The relationship between ourselves and Oaklands is very forward thinking and together we can announce that we are putting together collective partnerships, with CONEL College in Tottenham, Enfield College in Enfield, plus three top Schools in the St. Albans area, all through Oaklands College. We also have exit links for our players with enhanced relationships with professional Clubs like Tottenham Hotspur F.C., Watford F.C., Luton Town F.C., Leicester City F.C., Leyton Orient F.C. and Dagenham & Redbridge F.C.
Plus well known Non-League Clubs like Hendon F.C., Enfield Town F.C., and more locally London Colney. This will keep the boys playing at a good level of football, which nobody else can match at our level either locally or nationally. This has all been achieved through our extensive contacts in football, and we are confident in our continued success.
We always emphasise we are not a School football team. We are a Non-League Football PASE (Programme for Academic and Sporting Excellence) set-up, who link up with a fantastic local academic organisation like Oaklands College, who provide students with an education programme of unbelievable choice. We also have a proven track record of producing players who year on year progress, and remain in the game.

top ^ 12 Mar 2009 - PROGRESS UPDATE FOR BOREHAM WOOD F.C. UNDER 16 SIDE (PART ONE)
| Boreham Wood have identified the majority of next year’s Elite Squad with a talented crop of “Under 16” players who have been training at the Club for 2 – 3 months. Since coming together they have grown as a group, coming up against strong opposition recently, in Watford and Luton’s Academy Teams. However there could have been no tougher test for these young lads than to test themselves against the calibre of Tottenham Hotspur’s “Under 16’s”, who they faced on Wednesday night at Meadow Park. It was a game where the coaches, players and parents alike at Boreham Wood Football Club could enjoy the spectacle of this new young group of players showcasing their football ability. On the night ‘Wood’s youngsters did not disappoint as they continued their impressive run of performances that have included hard fought victories against Luton Town FC, Stevenage Borough and Barnet F.C. to claim an outstanding victory over Premiership Spurs, “Under 16’s” Academy outfit.
Boreham Wood “Under 16’s” 2 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur “Under 16’s”
With both sides having exceptional young talent on show, the game began at a high tempo, and brought an exciting edge from the start. The Spurs Academy team had the better of the early exchanges, with Wood showing signs of nerves. This led to early pressure and Tottenham having the majority of possession, using their movement and know how, to pin Wood back…. However the home team’s youngsters, stood strong and defended well, Steve Coleman led the defensive line superbly and set the tone for Wood to gain a foothold in the match and begin to impose their passing game. As Wood’s confidence grew, they began to commit bodies forward, but a rare mistake in midfield saw Spurs capitalise, bursting through the Wood defence to coolly finish past the advancing Sam King in the home goal. King then denied the Spurs “Under 16’s” from taking a 0 – 2 lead with a smart stop using his feet.

top ^ 12 Mar 2009 - PROGRESS UPDATE FOR BOREHAM WOOD F.C. UNDER 16 SIDE (PART TWO)
| This let off, galvanised the home team’s youngsters who began to relax again and settle into their stride. George Hunter who remained tenacious and willing all night down the left side, put in a teasing cross which eluded the oncoming Wood attackers, only to see defender Coleman rise highest to head over the bar. Now in the ascendancy, Wood took control with striker George Fierstone showing a great turn of pace, leaving two Spurs defenders flat footed as he worked the ‘keeper, but could not find the equaliser with his delicate chip. Still on top Wood didn’t want the first half to end, as they grew stronger but went in at the break one down. Academy Coach Luke Garrard commented “At half time we just said to the boys that there is everything to play for and nothing to fear, just relax, go and enjoy it.” The second half started with Wood again taking the initiative, and their passing and movement began to frustrate the Spurs team who seemed to have lost their earlier confidence and movement.
On sixty minutes came the moment of the match, as the home side equalised. A period of keep ball, in which the ball went from midfield to the back four, passed wide, and back into midfield. This led to fifteen year old Liam Griffin, dummying the ball to Charlie Hunter, who played a reverse ball to Shane Johnson, he played in midfielder, Max Farrelly who had continued his run, to place the ball in to the corner of the Spurs goal, to crown an exceptional twenty-nine pass move. Wood’s confidence levels rose further and they pushed forward with conviction to try and win the game, with Coleman and Fenton at the back thwarting any attack from the Spurs front men. The interchangeable midfield of Griffin, Hunter, Lancaster and Farrelly producing the right blend of work rate, quality and creativeness. Wood enjoyed good possession in the middle of the second half, making the Premiership’s Academy team, work hard to regain the ball.Author: JDG |
top ^ 12 Mar 2009 - PROGRESS UPDATE FOR BOREHAM WOOD F.C. UNDER 16 SIDE (PART THREE)
| With time running out it was the Non-League side who remained on the front foot and their deserved winner came, after another flowing passing move found Griffin in space, he picked out the pacey Fierstone with a delightful through ball. Fierstone muscled out the Spurs backline, before finishing right footed pass the on rushing Spurs ‘keeper. As fatigue began to show, the local boys having worked extremely hard, played the game out and fully deserved there amazing triumph.
PASE Manager Billy Hunter said “The club’s future is in good hands as these new lads will go on to form the basis of the Club’s PASE Scheme next year, this shows just how far the Club’s Youth structure has developed and progressed in a short period of time”. Academy Coach Mario Noto said “We are extremely happy how the boys performed tonight and we look forward to working with them next Season. It is an exciting time for the Club’s Youth section and education scheme.”
Anyone wishing to trial for next year’s PASE Scheme should contact the Club’s Football Office on 020-8953 5716.
That’s a sample of the progress being made at Youth level.

top ^ 22 Jan 2009 - BOREHAM WOOD F.C. - YOUTH TEAM MATCH REPORTS
| Boreham Wood “Under 18s” 0 – 1 Watford “Under 18s”
With the relationship between the two Hertfordshire Clubs flourishing, Boreham Wood “Under 18s” entertained their counterparts in a thrilling encounter at Meadow Park. With the view of Watford “Under 18s” preparing for their F.A. Youth Cup game against Southampton in the Fourth Round proper at St. Mary’s, they saw this as a great opportunity to set themselves up against a well organised and fluent passing side. With the arctic like conditions hitting the majority of Clubs in the lower Leagues, the game was still able to go ahead as it was played on the 3G Astroturf which previously allowed the Watford First Team, who were also preparing for a Championship fixture, to use the state of the art facilities throughout the whole of last week, as their UCL training ground being hit by the frost. The game started sharp, both teams showing mutual respect with a high tempo flow to the match. With end to end action for the first fifteen minutes the game finally settled seeing Boreham Wood slowly start to dictate the first third of the game, with the first real chance falling to Reece Tison-Lascaris who had calmly controlled the ball in the centre of the park, bouncing the ball off his striker, receiving the return and striking just wide of the far post. This saw another chance for the Wood which again after a slick passage of play saw them create an opening which this time saw Watford “Under 18s” International goalkeeper gladly collect the ball to his chest. Watford soon started to show their quality with imaginative passing and moving which saw them on several occasions threaten the Boreham Wood goal. Both teams adopting a similar formation allowing for an open attacking match. After the re-start Watford once again started sharp, with a great opportunity after quick and direct wing play delivering quality into the Wood box.Author: JDG |
top ^ 22 Jan 2009 - BOREAHM WOOD F.C. - YOUTH TEAM MATCH REPORTS (Continued)
| The defence was unable to deal with the initial cross which fell to the alert striker to only to be denied by two world class saves from the advancing Dan Lewis. The game changed hands once again with Boreham Wood playing some lovely one and two touch football, patient build up from the Wood allowed Jon Clements to come in off the wing to pick up the ball and travel at pace to only be denied by an outstanding block from the Watford centre half. The deadlock was finally broken as an incisive counter attack saw Wood outnumbered and unable to deal with presence at the far post which allowed the ball to drop and be coolly slotted into the bottom corner, after a pin point cross evaded both Kevin Williams and Bradley Fraser at the near post. As the final third got under way Wood looked likeliest to score with a guilt edge chance falling to Shane Johnson who found himself beyond the Watford backline, bearing down on goal the ball sat up nicely for him to surely level the game and give Boreham Wood the chance to go on and win, but Shane had other ideas, possibly lacking confidence the front man opted for power over placement which was denied with no recollection from the Hornets Goalkeeper after the ball smashed him square in the face. Wood finished strongly, but couldn’t create an opening which saw the game finish 0 – 1 to Watford. With the Friendly being such a success and the two sparking a great relationship only good things can continue between the two affiliated Clubs.
Boreham Wood Squad:- Daniel Lewis, Piero Bagarone, Kevin Williams, Bradley Fraser, Lewis Donovan, Jon Clements, Corey Whitely, Kayo Okot, Shane Bambridge, Reece Tison-Lascaris, Shane Johnson, Harry Hughes, Kieren Smith, Jamie McCarthy, Lorenz Ferrari and Luke Williams.

| Academy Director Billy Hunter said “I’m extremely happy with how the day went, both sets of players showed great quality with such an open attacking game. I’m really pleased we can have such a good relationship with a big local side like Watford, and hopefully these show case games can allow us to gage our progress and if possible send some up and coming Wood stars down to Watford’s Academy.
Boreham Wood “Under 16s” 0 – 3 Watford “Under 16s”
After just two weeks together Boreham Wood’s new crop of “Under 16s” played their first competitive fixture against professional opposition, entertaining a strong Watford outfit. These new lads will form the basis of the next year’s PASE Scheme at the Club and pleased the watching Coaches. With exceptional young talent on show, the game began with a high tempo, and brought an exciting edge to the match from the first whistle. Although under pressure Wood worked their way into the game piecing together some fluent passing through Liam Griffin and Kayo Okot. The first period of play saw little between the sides, with both trying to play and both sharing good opportunities on goal. In the final stages of the half, however, Watford broke the deadlock, after capitalising on a defensive mistake, giving Watford a 0 – 1 lead at the end of the first period. The second period remained at a high tempo as in the first period, with opportunities at both ends of the park, but it was Watford who increased their lead when the late arriving Wood defender Billy Wells conceded a penalty, which was then converted. Shortly after Watford made it three, after some tidy footwork saw the Watford midfielder finish with a superb strike, leaving the score 0 – 3 to Watford. The last third of the game was exceptional to watch with both Clubs producing top quality football and it was nice to see the Wood Youngsters, popping the ball nicely around the pitch and pushing forward putting together a string of good efforts that they were unable to convert.

| Watford still attacked with great pace but were unable to extend their lead further, after first rate defending from Steve Colman and Billy Wells.
Academy Director Billy Hunter commented “The game was a massive plus for the Club, and proved the level of talent we are producing, giving a very positive outlook to next Season’s campaign.”
Whitton United 0 – 6 Boreham Wood
With the opportunity to progress into the Quarter Finals of the National Conference Cup, Boreham Wood sent out its strongest P.A.S.E. Team against a Whitton United side that previously beat a Boreham Wood “Second X1” in the earlier round of this Cup Competition. With that defeat fresh in their minds, it was important for Wood to inflict a defeat on Whitton United for the first time this Season. The game started ragged with spells of disjointed play from both sides, and with the Whitton United pitch, not of the highest quality, so it was hard for Wood to get the ball down and play. After only twenty minutes Wood had the clearest chance which fell to lone striker Kieren Smith, who had breached the Whitton back line, before tamely directing his shot wide of goal. Wood finally started to gain confidence and created many openings which should have seen the breakthrough, however Whitton’s resilience and pure enthusiasm stopped Boreham Wood every time.
Finally Wood took the lead through great wing play which saw Jamie McCarthy drive at the full back with quick feet that allowed for a cross of the highest quality to Jon Clements and he nodded in the opener. Shortly after half time Boreham Wood increased the lead, again it was Jon Clements who drifted in from the wing to collect the ball and drive into the box, the advancing goalkeeper could only bring him down, resulting in a spot kick for the Wood. Skipper Shane Bambridge slotted the penalty home with ease.Author: JDG |

| The third goal was quickly dispatched after Kayo Okot, an ever present in the Wood side, advanced into the Whitton half played a one two with Kieren Smith, who was bundled to the ground, the resultant free kick some thirty yards from goal was dispatched by set piece specialist Shane Bambridge. With Whitton United demoralised, it was inevitable that rampant Wood got the fourth to reward the efforts of lone striker Kieren Smith with the goal of the game, boasting an impressive 28 passes before his finish. The fifth was a solo effort from Jon Clements, his determination allowed him to collect the ball, shift past one defender before smashing his effort in at the far post. With Wood flying the sixth goal was inevitable and shortly before the final whistle, Reece Tison-Lascaris had skill and control to collect the ball deep inside his own half before jinxing past three challenges, and unleashing his goal bound effort, that caught the opposition goalkeeper unaware, to make it a rout.
With Wood advancing through to the Quarter Finals of this National Cup Competition for the third successive Season, they now have rivals Barnet in the last eight of the Competition. It’s a game which will go a long way to decide local bragging rights!
Academy Director Billy Hunter said “I’m happy we progressed comfortably into the next stage of this Competition. The boys showed professionalism and togetherness with an accomplished performance. We now have Barnet in the next Round, so we will prepare and organise ourselves to get into the Semi Finals against a professional set-up, we look forward to being underdogs.”

| Boreham Wood “Under 16s” 2 – 1 Luton Town “Under16s”
Boreham Wood “Under 16s” entertained Luton Town at Meadow Park in a thrilling mid-season Friendly. The Wood youngsters started with tremendous pace and applied great pressure to the visitors from the start. Moving the ball around the park gave Wood a number of early opportunities. Wood continued to push forward with Liam Griffin and George Fierstone linking up well, and dominating possession in the centre of the park. As the game settled Luton Town found their feet, coming close to taking a lead but were denied by some superb goalkeeping. Wood came close again at the end of the first period, when some exquisite footwork from Connor Lancaster left the Luton full back standing, he delivered a great ball which was only cut out through great defensive play, leaving the score 0 – 0 at half time. The second half continued at a high tempo and, although Boreham Wood made three changes they still retained the majority of possession. They came close to the opener after Charlie Hunter picked up possession and pulled the trigger from 35 yards which forced an acrobatic save from the Luton goalkeeper. Luton gradually worked their way back into the game piecing together, and creating a couple of opportunities, which they could not convert. Wood however looked a more solid outfit, breaking down Luton’s build up play, with Wood youngster George Hunter displaying fine defensive qualities, although playing a year above himself. In the final thirty minutes, Luton Town pushed forward with tremendous pace, and took the lead after a breakdown in communication resulted in the Luton striker nipping in behind the home defence to score. Boreham Wood responded with attitude and maturity, and by keeping and moving the ball around, and by attacking the flanks through Dan Loveday and Lee Klose they got their reward. Wood equalised when an error between the Luton goalie and centre back allowed Kieren Smith to tap the ball into the empty net.Author: JDG |

| The game entered its final minutes, and a final Wood attack on goal, saw a George Hunter ball find George Fierstone, who broke beyond the Luton defence. His shot was parried, but the ball fell to the oncoming Kieren Smith, to rifle into the Roof of the net, giving the Wood a deserved 2 – 1 victory.
PASE Manager Billy Hunter said “I’m extremely pleased with the progress these boys have made over the past few weeks, and very proud of what we achieved, against professional opposition.” “Luton Town, fielded a very strong team of players, one of whom had already made his First Team debut, and several others had been offered Scholarships. So our performance showed a maturity well beyond our boys years.” Hunter continued “We are now beginning our recruitment drive for next Season’s PASE Scheme. Our first Trial will be Monday 6 April 2009, 10.30am at the Club.” For more information please call on 0208-953 5716.

| Harry's Five O
F.A. Youth Challenge Cup - First Round Proper
Boreham Wood “Under 18’s” 0 Leyton Orient “Under 18’s” 5
by John Mead
The visit of a highly skilful Leyton Orient side proved to be a bridge too far on the night for the battling Wood teenagers. The side, steered by a fine Captain’s performance from Jon Clements never gave up the fight and should be proud of their achievement in reaching this stage of the Competition for the second Season running. The visit of the professional outfit from East London drew a crowd of 151 who were entertained to a high standard of football throughout. The nemesis for the O’s was right sided wide player Harry Baker, scorer of the first and creator of the second, third and final goals for his side on the evening. Until his first, a superb measured lob from fully thirty yards over Wood ‘keeper Alfie Plumb after sixteen minutes, Wood had succeeded in matching their illustrious visitors. The goal sparked a rise in tempo from both sides, with Clements as active in the opponents penalty area as in his own, assisting Rhys Shirley-Clarke to mop up. Orient increased their lead after twenty-two minutes. Baker’s fine cross from the right was knocked down by Adam Marsh into the path of Adam Bolle whose volley from eight yards left Plumb no chance. The Wood defence needed to be at its best as the visitors pressed forward with Patrick O’Donnell narrowly failing to convert another telling delivery from Baker. Jamie McCarthy then looked to turn the tide in Wood’s favour with an inspirational multi directional run past a throng of players before being upended just outside the penalty area. However Wood failed to make the advantage count and soon the dangerous Baker broke, with Luke Williams making a superbly timed last ditch tackle to deny Bolle on the stroke of half time.Author: JDG |
top ^ 4 Nov 2008 - F.A. YOUTH CHALLENGE CUP - FIRST ROUND - MATCH REPORT (Part Two)
| Reece Tison-Lascaris went close for Wood after the interval, before Bolle missed a easy chance firing over the bar after Plumb took the sting out of a powerful dipping drive from Marsh. Indeed Plumb made several brave saves at the feet of attackers to keep his side in the game before the inspirational Baker sent Matthew Hall through with a fine ball who steered his shot wide of Plumb for Orient's third on the hour mark.
Clements almost reduced the arrears at the far post, earning a corner from Terry Foskett's left sided cross. Wood refused to roll over with Substitute Kieren Smith just failing to beat keeper Daniel Bygraves to the ball. An unfortunate poor clearance by Brad Fraser was predated by Marsh who snapped up the opportunity, producing a finish of the highest quality, his looping drive leaving Plumb with little chance, after 73 minutes. With Wood desperately trying to get on the score sheet the visitors closed out the game with some stubborn defending. There was still time for the brilliant Baker, whom surely has a Career in football waiting in the wings, to set up number five. His low curling cross from the right was forced home at the far post by Substitute Jake Argent in the final minute. Wood's PASE boys however gave a good account of themselves throughout and had Clements seemingly stonewall penalty shout gone their way after fifteen minutes, the game may well have taken a different path, with that little bit of confidence eluding them at critical moments throughout the tie.
Team: Plumb, Shirley-Clarke, Tyrell, Okot, Williams, Fraser, McCarthy (Sub – Smith 62 mins.), Tison-Lascaris (Sub – Abu 82 mins.), Clements, Whitely, Foskett (Sub – Hughes 82 mins.).

| Leyton Orient beware!
F.A. Youth Challenge Cup – Third Qualifying Round
Boreham Wood “Under 18's” 4 Maldon Town “Under 18's” 2
by John Mead
The prize of a plum First Round Proper home draw against the professionals of Leyton Orient was the carrot dangling before the PASE Scheme Wood youngsters and they duly delivered with a breathtaking second half salvo, coming back from 0 – 1 down to storm into an unassailable lead with three goals inside twelve minutes. It appears this side, who have lost just one League fixture in three Seasons know no boundaries. This was their fourth victory in the Competition this Season, as they look to at least equal last Season’s feat of reaching the Second Round, when they lost out to Swansea City. Wood dominated the opening stages of the tie, yet it was from Maldon's first attack after nineteen minutes that Alfie Plumb was forced into a full stretch save to deny Joe Nathanson with the first attempt on target of the game after getting in behind the stoic central defensive pair of Bradley Fraiser and Luke Williams. The tie was a fast and furious end to end affair and Wood quickly showed their intentions when a brilliant cross from Jamie McCarthy picked out Jon Clements in a sweeping move that drew a point blank save from Lewis Mackay. Joe Collins the chief Town play maker then drew Plumb off his line, with his effort skimming wide of the post. With the visitors keen on the long ball they found the Wood central defence in uncompromising form, whilst the pace of Corey Whitely down the right channel gave Town a lot to be concerned about at the interval. A subdued Reece Tison-Lascaris exploded into action in the second half for Wood, embarking upon a fifty yard run that drew a save from Mackay, before Whitely was denied a penalty shout as Wood upped their game. The visitors then delivered a killer blow, taking the lead after 52 minutes. The outstanding Collins powered past several challenges to supply Nathanson who side footed into net.Author: JDG |
top ^ 23 Oct 2008 - BOREHAM WOOD "UNDER 18" X1 WIN IN F.A. YOUTH CHALLENGE CUP (Part Two)
| Town could have grabbed a second minutes later before Wood produced a move of breathtaking synchronicity to equalise just three minutes after falling behind. It was the highlight of a pulsating tie. Whitely supplied Jon Clements down the middle and his quick ball wide left found Terry Foskett, who whipped in a first time cross that was thrashed home on the volley by Tison-Lascaris, a finish of the highest quality. Clements sent Wood into the lead for the first time after 65 minutes. Capitalising on a poor clearance he showed a maturity to pick his spot beyond Mackay.
Two minutes later Foskett again supplied the perfect cross, this time from a left sided corner which found Kayo Okot at the far post and he powered home with his head. With Wood 3 – 1 ahead the opposition lost their cool momentarily, with the Referee and both benches exemplary in heading off a confrontation that earned Tison-Lascaris a caution.
With twelve minutes of normal time remaining Tison-Lascaris produced another superb finish to put the tie beyond reach. Jamie McCarthy lofted a fine cross from the right touch line, Clements drew his marker allowing the ball to drop over the last defender finding Tison-Lascaris who applied the deftest touch to produce a quite brilliant lob over Mackay. Danny Ayden managed a late consolation for the Essex side after Foskett's screamer was inches away from glory.
Speaking after the game Wood Manager Steve Hodson summarised, “We dominated for twenty minutes then sat back. Rockets were launched in the Dressing Room at half time and we highlighted the weaknesses in their side. We showed great character to come back from a goal down and the quality of our equaliser was unquestionable. We then went on to produce three more wonderfully executed goals and I am absolutely delighted for the boys.” Hodson then declared, “Bring on Leyton Orient, that's all I can say after this performance!”Author: JDG |

top ^ 21 Oct 2008 - F.A. YOUTH CHALLENGE CUP - PRESS RELEASE
| After an impressive win and professional performance against Colney Heath F.C. in the F.A. Youth Challenge Cup, Boreham Wood Football Club "Under 18’s" have progressed to the Third Qualifying Round.
The talented youngsters who have had huge success, only losing once in the League in the past three Seasons, are hoping to emulate their historic progress in the same Cup last Season, when they reached the Second Round proper, losing to professional opposition Swansea City F.C.
Boreham Wood F.C. PASE Coach Mario Noto, who reached the Semi-Final of the Competition when he played for Tottenham Hotspur commented "The F.A. Youth Challenge Cup is a fantastic Competition that I immensely enjoyed playing in. It’s a great place to showcase your talent for the professional sides, and get used to playing in front of large crowds. Some of these players will only get the chance to play in it once, so we really want them to enjoy their experience and do well. If we play to our potential, I see no reason why we can’t better our progress of the last two Seasons by making it all the way the to the Third Round, which is where the Premiership sides come into play."
Boreham Wood face a stern test ahead of them, when they entertain Maldon Town F.C. on Wednesday 22nd October 2008. The prize possibly awaiting would be an inviting tie against professional side Leyton Orient, which would certainly make for a dramatic and exciting Cup tie.
The Meadow Park outfit are hoping they can rouse interest and get as much support on the day on the evening and along the way, to cheer the boys to victory. Club Football in the Community Manager Billy Hunter said "We need as much support as we can get, we really want the town to show out and support its local Youth in what we hope will be a historic Season."
