Fernieside Football Club were formed in 1989 and our clubrooms are based at Gilmerton Park, Edinburgh. We have 9 teams ranging from 8's through to an Amateur team plus Kids School. The Club as a whole is one of the most progressive on the South Side of the City and we consider ourselves to be a well run Family Club.
This website is dedicated to the Amateur team who play in the Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur Football Association (L.E.A.F.A). Our home games are played at Peffermill Playing Fields and we are going into our third season.
In our first season (2005/06), we were promoted from the Edinburgh West Division as Runner Up it was some achievement for a team who did not exist 12 months prior. We also managed to make it into a Semi Final but unfortunately had an off day when the result really mattered.
Season 2006/07 and a new, harder challenge for the team. The core of the promotion team stayed together with a few new faces joining the fold. It was what seemed like a long season for us but after our inconsistences in the first half of the season the winter break arrived and we came back all guns blazing. It looked at one point like we may even win the league but other results went against us and in the end we finished in a very respectable fourth place. The Management Team admitting at the start of the season just to stay in the league would be some achievement.
On mentioning achievements, the clubs finest moment was to come on Saturday 19th May 2007 at Saughton Enclosure, Edinburgh, the Final of the Cairns Cup. We were faced with Edinburgh Rose (a team that had beaten us 3-1 and 4-1 in the previous two matches) and after a great battle against the elements aswell as Rose, we came out on top, 7-3 after extra time. The goals coming from Richard McDonagh (3), Robert Thorburn, Darren Laird, Ross Hall and the industrious John Conkey.
