News item19 Jun 2011 - Awards Continued

Skilful winger Matty Hall received the ‘Most Improved Player’ award. His performances during the first half of the season were good but he seemed to grow in confidence as the season went on and stepped his game up to the highest quality for the second half. It’s believed Tommy Huddlestone’s improvement was a result from signing for SML side Winslow United midway through the season.
This award could have gone to a number of players within the Cosmos squad. Veteran defender Darren Hackett has improved his game over the course of the season, despite being 44, his increase in his fitness level is the main reason behind his improvement.
Karl Ferris had never played football before July 2010. Over the course of this season, Karl has worked hard to become a right winger and is progressing very well. His 2 assists during the season from taking players on and producing good crosses is evidence of this.
Finally Cosmos skipper Tom Willis has improved his performance over the season. Steve Guppy has lead by example in the centre of midfield from his energetic box to box performances and by playing straightforward 2 and 3 touch football, the way he’s facing.

Strong and towering centre half Craig Smith received the ‘Players Player Runner Up’ award. Craig only signed for Cosmos midway through the season but quickly became an invaluable asset with his high standard performances at centre back. I believe had Craig have started the season with Cosmos, it is very possible he could have pushed the Players Player winner all the way with the votes.

Prolific goalscorer James Shrimpton received the big award of the night. Shrimpy who started in all 19 of Cosmos’ games this season, scored 29 goals, made 9 assists and won 3 player of match awards. He received the majority of the votes from his fellow players and was crowned Cosmos’ Players Player of the season.

News item18 Jun 2011 - Presentation Awards

Cosmos had their end of season presentation evening last night at the Doghouse Public House at Broughton Crossing, Aylesbury. Before the awards are announced, I would like to say a thank you to a few people. Firstly a big thank you goes to Gary and all the staff at the Doghouse for letting us use the function room and laying on the food. Secondly, thank you to George Key from the League committee who came down to present the runner-up trophies to all the players on behalf of the league. Finally, a thank you goes to all the players and wags that turned up for the evening and made it such a good night.

Now on to the winners:

Sian Smith, wife of Brett Smith received a prize for ‘Supporter of the season.’ Out of the 19 games Cosmos played, Sian only missed 2 or 3 games when she was giving birth.

Oli Wiffin, Cosmos’ water boy received a special award for the ‘Most Valuable Staff Member.’ Thank you for your assistance and commitment Mentalist, you made my job a whole lot easier.

Brett Smith received the booby prize, literally a trophy with a pair of boobs on it, for Cosmos’ ‘Most Embarrassing Moment’ of the season. This was voted for on the night of the presentation evening by those who attended. He won the award for getting booked after calling the St Johns linesman’s a ‘cheating bastard’. Come on Brett, if you’re going to get booked and cough up a tenner, at least do it for something more credible than that.

Matty Atkinson and Brett Smith both received the ‘Goal of the season’ award after the voting was tied at seven votes each. Brett scored in the first game of the season at home against Chearsley Cricketers and Matty scored against Elm Farm in the cup.

James Shrimpton received the award for Cosmos’ ‘Best Individual Performance’. Shrimpy was given this awarded for his performance against SFG away in the 4-4 draw. Cosmos were 3-1 down at half time and down to 10 men. Shrimpy was asked to play up front on his own and scored a second half hat-trick to make the score 4-3 to Cosmos. A last minute penalty for SFG ensured the points were shared in this entertaining game.

Brett Smith, received the ‘Clubman’ award. The deciding vote was given by Cosmos secretary, Steve Martin for Brett’s commitment to the club. Brett rarely misses a training session and always produces a good performance week in and week out during the season. Brett is prompt when it comes to paying his money and is rarely in debt to the Club. For all theses reason and some more he rightly deserves this award.

News item7 Nov 2010 - A Kitkat Salesman Signs

Click here for further information on Tom Martin
Tom Martin
Cosmos can confirm the signing of Tommy Martin. Tommy has spent more time on the American Football field than on a Football pitch in the last four years, it's now time to revert him back to the game which he showed so much potential in. Tommy is one of many players from the 'Mick Martin and Gary Harthill Bedgrove Dynamos Academy Team' who won more titles and trophies than the average person has had hot dinners. Tommy who played at centre back, went on to play for Chesham United Youth Team before quiting football and going to Pompey Uni. At Uni Tommy changed sports and become the Kicker and Free Safety of the Uni American Football team. Since he has finished Uni, Tommy has appeared on a couple of occasions for Sunday side Elm Farm but never cemented a first team place. Although Tommy is now living on the other side of the M25, if he is ever home on a Sunday, his defensive quailties will be put to use in the Cosmos team.

News item24 Oct 2010 - Two New Signings Make Their Debut

Latest Cosmos signings Craig Smith and Lee Cohen made their debut today in the 5-1 victory over St Johns at Bedgrove park. Despite not playing football for over three and a half years, Craig Smith was voted the Cosmos Man of the Match for his outstanding display at centre half.
Lee Cohen who has also not played football for the past two seasons, played well up front and was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet after creating a handful of chances.

News item7 Oct 2010 - Cosmos Commitee Sign

Steve Martin and Loz Wiffin have put pen to paper and signed on for Cosmos for this season.

Steve is a former player of Elm Farm FC and said it was a difficult decision to leave the club he played with for three seasons since they formed. Steve said that due to the size of the Elm Farm squad and the calibre of players they had signed on, he would struggle to hold down a first team place and deided it was time to leave to get first team football. Steve wished the Farmers all the best with their season and their search for the Premiership title. Steve finished by saying he hoped their paths will cross in a cup competition.

At the peak of Loz's football career, it saw him play in goal for Aylesbury United Youth team, Haywood United Youth team and South Midlands side Winslow United. Loz has also appeared for ADL side Tring Corinthians and Sunday teams Aylesbury Saints and Market Tavern.
Loz was approached by Steve in an attempt to bring him out of retirement to assist in the administration and runnning of Cosmos. One of the terms in Loz agreeing to help and sign on was if he could leave his gloves at home and try his game on pitch. Loz will be looking to secure a first team place at right back, his height and his heading ability are a big advance in his defensive attributes.

News item20 Sep 2010 - Two Broken Records

It has just been brought to my attention that two individual records were broken by Cosmos players during Sunday's game against Ickford Reserves.

Man of the match and five goal superstar David Icke scored his first ever competitive hat trick. The former Aston Villa Academy youngster completed the perfect hat trick scoring with his head and his left and right foot.

Skipper Tom Willis scored his first ever competitive goal and like a London bus, two came along at once. Willis who has played for Broughton School, John Colet School, Haddenham United and The Horse and Jockey (Wycombe), had gone up until Sunday without notching.

Cosmos can unveil two more signings as the squad exceeds twenty. Krzysztof Kesik also know as Kris and old school centre back Darren Hackett are the latest Cosmos signings. Both players are from the Garrads glazing compnay which takes the total number of players to sign who work at Garrads to five.
43 year old Darren, formerly of ADL side Aston Park overtakes Paul Lucas as the most senior player in the squad. Although Darren has told the Cosmos backroom staff that his knees will not allow him to play every week, his experience is invaluable in the Cosmos squad and the younger members will look up to him during the tough games.

News item18 Aug 2010 - Cosmos 1 Bedgrove Dynamos 1

Click here for further information on Shaun Smith
Shaun Smith
Cosmos welcomed Bedgrove Dynamos to Bedgrove Park in their last pre season friendly on Wednesday 18th August 2010.

The game started with a lot of quick, counter attacking football from both sides. Although Cosmos weren't as fluid with their football as in the previous game against Jakemans, when they did get the ball down and played football, they looked good and from the sidelines it was impressive to watch.
Both sides went close with good chances. One notible chance for Bedgrove from 5 yards out saw Cosmos keeper Shaun 'Safehands' Smith make two oustanding saves in quick succession, then immediately after Karl Biswell made a last ditch tackle in the six yard box to deny a Bedgrove goal. Cosmos did find the breakthrough after 35 minutes when Dave Rawlings ran through the middle of midfield into the Bedgrove half and released James Shrimpton with a perfectly timed through ball. Shrimpy went one on one with the Bedgrove keeper and didn't disappoint with a first class and tidy finish.

The score remained 1-0 to Cosmos until the break and then long into the second half. It seemed Cosmos were heading for their second consecutive win in a row but Bedgrove didn't give up and equalised on the 75th minute. A cross into the Cosmos box from the left flank wasn't dealt with and Daryll Lawson fired home from 10 yards out.
Just how the game started with quick, end to end football, the last 15 minutes saw both sides pushing for the victory but the score finished 1-1.

An outstanding performance in goal from Shaun Smith saw him given the Cosmos man of the match award.

News item18 Aug 2010 - A Second Set of Brothers Sign

Andrew and Roger Skone have put pen to paper and have signed for Cosmos. Both were due to play for Yeoman United this season, but the side folded just days before the season started. Senior brother Andrew, who is commonly known as Skoney to his mates, primarily plays at centre back but can also stand in at right and left back. Skoney is a tidy player and often acts as a sweeper intercepting the oppositions through balls to their strikers. Although Skoney is not the tallest, he will put his head in where it hurts and he loves a tackle. Skoney's lucky shirt number is 12 but nobody knows why.

Roger, also known as Dodge and the Artful Roger, is a lookalike of Wayne Rooney. This is extremely ironic because Dodge plays his football similarly to Rooney which is where he gets his new nickname of Rogerooney from. Rog is a unit, his strength and movement makes it a nightmare for defenders to mark and deal with. These attributes make him the ideal player for a Cosmos target man.
Like many other player in the Cosmos squad, Rog is another product from the very successful 'Mick Martin and Gary Harthill Bedgrove Dynamos Academy Team' and as a teeneager he spent many seasons at the Wycombe Wanderers School of Excellance.

News item16 Aug 2010 - Four More Signings After Friendly Victory

Cosmos can confirm the signings of David Icke, Brett Smith, Martyn Travers and Richard Janes. All four played a vital part in the 4-2 friendly victory over Jakeman Sports FC.

As a youngster, Ickey spent a spell at the Aston Villa Academy before a broken leg cut short his playing career and he was released. Last season Dave played for a side in Hemel in a Hertfordshire Sunday league but due to the traveling distance, he opted to sign for Cosmos and play in the Aylesbury Sunday league.

Brett Smith is yet another left footer to sign for Cosmos. Brett prefers to play left midfield as his pace, dribbling and crossing ability can cause all sorts of problems for the opposition defence however, Brett can fill in a left back should he be required to. Brett's former clubs include Aylesbury United and Tring Athletic.

Martyn Travers is another Ex Tring Athletic player to sign for Cosmos. Formely a goalkeeper, Martyn has told the management at Cosmos he wants to play in a more attacking position and will offer his services at either right midfield or up front.

Centre back Richard Janes is one of the youngest players in the Cosmos squad at 20. He is regarded as a key player for the future of the club.

News item14 Aug 2010 - Two Sea Creatures Sign

Cosmos can confirm the signings of James Shrimpton aka Shrimpy and Matthew Fisher aka Fish. Both lads are regarded as hot propects for the future by the Cosmos backroom staff.

Shrimpy is a traditional English centre forward and his game is very similar to that of Alan Shearer's. Shrimpy has played his football at a good standard throughout his career as a teenager and at the height of it he enjoyed a stint at Chesham United Youth team. A source at Cosmos had this to say, "Being a centre forward the pressure is on Shrimpy to score goals and lots of them. Shrimpy is such a quality talent this pressure will not phase him. I have no doubt he will score goals, and I will put my morgage on him scoring 20 goals this season".

Versatile Fish can play anywhere across defence and in midfield. He is currently studying at University and his availability will be reduced becasue of this. A source at Cosmos said "Fish is a steady eddy. He always works hard and produces a performance of the highest standard everytime he plays. Cosmos will miss him when he is away studing and tax dodging but this will give other players the opportunity to fight for a place in the squad".

Tom Willis has been confirmed as a Cosmos signing. Growing up as a teenager, Willis was more of an injury prone, rapidly quick, egg chaser rather than a footballer. Willis has recently played for Haddenham United in the ADL and last season he played for the Horse and Jockey in the Wycombe Sunday League, but decided the traveling every week was too much to handle.

Willis is the third left footer to sign for Cosmos so far this season. Being naturally left footed, Willis can play left back and left midfield but he mostly enjoys playing centre midfield where his high level of fitness assists him with getting stuck in and involved all over the pitch.

Arsenal legend David Seaman had this to say about Shauny; "I see a lot of myself in Shaun. His technical and shot stopping ability is of the highest standard. Growing up as a youngster Shauny was the best goalie of his age group for hundreds of miles around. It was no suprise to me that Wycombe Wanderers signed him. News item8 Mar 2010 - Cosmos 2 Unique 2

Cosmos lined up against Unique in their first friendly of season at Bowlers Field on Tuesday 3rd August.

Cosmos, in a brand new Claret and Blue strip, started brightly and began to dominate the game for the first 15 minutes with two and three touch football. After many efforts at the Unique goal, the dealock was finally broken around the fifteen minute mark when Piotr 'The Maniac' Szafaraniec put Matty Hall through one on one with the Unique keeper and Matty cleverly drilled the ball in the top corner of the goal.
The very few spectators said after the game this 1-0 lead seemed to install more confidence in the Cosmos players, and they began to string even more passes together giving off the impression that this was not their first game playing together.
Approximately Ten minutes later and after a string of passes which involved most of the Cosmos team, the move ended up with Piotr putting Steve Hutson through on goal where Steve made it 2-0 and Piotr claimed his second assist of the match.
Score at half time, Cosmos 2 Unique 0.
Unique made some changes at half time and brought on a big eared chap in the centre of midfield. He bagan to unsettle the passing rhythm of Cosmos by getting stuck into their midfielders all over the pitch, and by playing route one balls either between the Cosmos centre backs and full backs, or behind the Cosmos defence for Unique's pacey forwards to run onto. Cosmos were playing as if they were not the same team as the one in the first half and on around the 65th minute, Unique pulled a goal back, 2-1. Squeeky bum time for Cosmos.
Five minutes later and Cosmos had still not got going since half time. A cross into the box was pounched on by a Unique striker an he made no mistake from 10 yards out. The score now 2-2 with 70 minutes gone, plenty of time remaining for a winner. Cosmos began to play football again and actually strung a load of passess together in a push for the winner. While the Cosmos players were creating chance at one end, goalkeeper Shauny Smith was denying Unique chances at the other.
In the final minute Cosmos had a goal ruled out for offside when James Shrimpton put the ball in the back of the net. The fairytale first game win against a side in the league above was not meant to be and the game finished 2-2.
The Cosmos players can keep their heads held high with a good result against a squad of players who have played together on many occassions before this game. Well done to all those who played, lets improve on this result for the next game.

There were some outstanding performances in the Cosmos side which saw the Man of the Match votes were spread across several players: Shaun Smith, Steve Hutson and Jake Dell but with six votes, the award went to Matty Hall. Get the beers in Matty!
