Club Details

Wrockwardine Wood FC was established in 1890 by the local mining community . It acquired the current pitch two years later and continued to play in what was then the Wellington League enjoying considerable success , winning the League on several occasions before being promoted to the Shropshire County Football League, where again much success was enjoyed. In 1901 they were invited to play in the Birmingham League and it was while in this league they defeated Coventry City in the FA Cup. The club stayed in the league for many years before joining the West midland league in the 50s . The clubs most successfull period being 1966-69 when they won the first division title on two occasions. Shortly after this the club withdrew from the league and although a side continued through the local leagues for some years the club floundered. In 1992 current chairman Brian Neville , Sjoined the club and built a highly successfull Sunday League Team and 9 years laterwas invited by Rob Corbett to apply to join the WMRL

League following the demise of Shifnal Town Res but after this shortly the club folded..In 2001 Kevin Wynn who managed Randlay Farmhouse in the Bridgnorth League aproached Brian Neville on a view to play from there ground to suit the criteria of the County League. Brian agreed on a condition they changed there name and in which they were called Wrockwardine United and entered the County League in 2001. In 2004 they dropped the United and became Wrockwardine Wood 2004 FC After 7 years Kevin Wynn decided to call it a day and in the 2007/08 season asked former Oakengates Town manager Mark Guryn known as Gus to take over the reigns who also brought in Simon Delves from Wrekin Ams and Oakengates Athletic as the new management duo. Next season Wrockwardine Wood will apply to the Shropshire FA to drop the " 2004 " and will be re- named after the original 1890 Wrockwardine
